Affordable housing
brainstorming today
A consultant’s report in April said Sequim must create more affordable housing to maintain its quality of life.
Now it’s the public’s turn to say how best to accomplish that goal.
The public brainstorming session is set for 4-6 p.m. today, Wednesday Aug. 19, at the Guy Cole Center in Carrie Blake Park, 202 N. Blake Ave.
Sequim City Councilor Bill Huizinga said the session will include the familiar breakout groups and butcher paper on easels with black marking pens.
Each group will be given an outline and asked how best to implement each point, he said.
Watch for highway workers
The following road projects are scheduled in the area this week:
_ Pavement marker maintenance in both directions of U.S. Highway 101 from mileposts 250-263 between Port Angeles and Sequim. Expect single-lane closures from 6:30 a.m.-4 p.m. through Thursday, Aug. 20.
Take transit to the fair
On the three bus service days during the Clallam County Fair, Aug. 20-22, all fixed-route passengers will pay only 25 cents per boarding countywide with no fee zone.
There is no transit service on Sunday.
"The Bus" offers passengers service to the fairgrounds on two regularly scheduled fixed routes. Route No. 24, Cherry Hill, and Route No. 26, Westside, serve the fairgrounds on a regular basis. Both have reduced service on Saturday.
The Clallam Transit System will have an information booth and display at the fair near the west gate to assist with transportation needs and service coordination.
The display will feature a prize wheel for visitors and two daily drawings for monthly bus passes.

Microchip clinic on Saturday
The Olympic Peninsula Humane Society is presenting a microchip clinic between 1-3:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at the shelter, 2105 W. Highway 101, Port Angeles. The price is $20 per animal. Home Again sponsors the clinic.
A microchip identifies a pet if it is lost. The chip is inserted between the shoulder blades and has a personal identification number. If a pet comes into the shelter, a veterinarian’s office or is picked up by animal control, the chip is scanned to locate the owner.
Lung support group
The lung support group meets at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at the Mariners Cafe, 707 E. Washington St., Sequim. There is no guest speaker scheduled this month.
