Talk on fiscal responsibility
Concerned Citizens of Clallam County will host Scott St. Clair, an investigative journalist with The Evergreen Freedom Foundation, at its meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24, at the Sequim Boys & Girls Club, 400 W. Fir St., Sequim.
St. Clair will speak on the role citizens can play in returning governments to more fiscal responsibility and principled competency.

Food drive for animals
Blue Mountain Animal Clinic has opened its winter food drive for Peninsula Friends of Animals. Donations of unopened bags and cans of cat and dog food will be accepted through March at the clinic, 2972 Old Olympic Highway.
Each donor will be entered in a drawing for a $75 gift certificate for use at the Old Mill Café in Carlsborg.
Humane society seeks volunteers
Olympic Peninsula Humane Society holds volunteer orientations from 6-7:30 p.m. today Jan. 19 and 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, in the Carver Room at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., Port Angeles.
Information about volunteering to help the animals will be presented. RSVP to Bobbie Daniels at 360-504-1143 with choice of session.
Grange pizza, games planned
Fairview Grange hosts a pizza and game night at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, at 161 Lake Farm Road, Port Angeles. Activities include a scavenger hunt and party bingo.
The cost is $5 for adults and free for children. Bring a dessert to share. Proceeds benefit the Fairview Grange. Call 461-9008.
Free community dinner set
A free community dinner will be served at
5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 Blake Ave., Sequim.
Reservations may be made by phoning the church at 683-5367 between 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on the Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday before the dinner, or by e-mail to dinners@sequimtumc.org. Those unable to make a reservation still will be welcomed.
The church is offering the dinners on the last Thursday of each month. The menu this month includes meatballs, potatoes or rice with gravy, vegetables, green salad, dessert and beverages.
Homework help will be available.
Red Cross classes
The American Red Cross, Olympic Peninsula Chapter, offers two free classes from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28, at the Red Cross office, 151 Ruth’s Place, Carlsborg.
“Fulfilling Our Mission” describes Red Cross strategies for relieving disaster victims and helping communities prevent and prepare for disasters. “Mass Care/Community Services Overview” explains basic services offered during a disaster and how the Red Cross responds to emergencies.
Participants also learn about roles and volunteer opportunities in the Red Cross.

Fight fraud
Lisa Meyer, assistant vice president and manager of the Port Angeles branch of US Bank, will present tips and techniques for reducing the risk of identity theft, bank card fraud, phishing/skimming and cybercrime at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., Port Angeles.
The free program is co-sponsored by the Port Angeles Friends of the Library and US Bank. No preregistration is required.
Flippin’ flapjacks
Sequim Prairie Grange serves a pancake breakfast from 7:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 23, at the grange hall, 290 Macleay Road, Sequim. The proceeds benefit the Sequim High School Select Choir’s trip to Carnegie Hall.
In addition to all the pancakes you can eat, the menu includes ham, eggs and beverages. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children 10 and younger.

Beach Watchers seeks volunteers
Washington State University’s Beach Watchers program offers training for new volunteers from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, April 19-May 26, in Port Angeles. Volunteers participate in a range of projects: water quality sampling, seabird monitoring, festivals, workshops and tide pool talks.

Opportunity fund board meeting
The Clallam County Opportunity Fund advisory board meets from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24, in the second-floor conference room at the Lincoln Center, 905 W. Ninth St., Port Angeles.
There will be a presentation from the Housing Authority of Clallam County, in conjunction with its application requesting money from the fund for the Eklund Heights Multifamily Housing Project in Port Angeles.
