County commission nixes meeting
The March 2 Clallam County Planning Commission meeting is cancelled.
The commission reconvenes at 6:30 p.m., March 16, in Room 160 at the Clallam County Courthouse in Port Angeles.
Genealogy group meets
The regular meeting of the Computer Genealogy Users Group will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 4, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.

Edward R. Murrow subject of First Friday lecture
The Jefferson County Historical Society hosts its First Friday Lecture at 7 p.m. Friday, March 4, at the city council chamber, 540 Water St., Port Townsend. Peninsula College associate professor Rich Riski discusses the career of legendary journalist Edward R. Murrow. Admission is by donation.
Bikers for Christ holds monthly meeting
The Olympic Peninsula Chapter of Bikers for Christ, a Christian nonprofit ministry with members in 50 states, meets at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, March 5, at Deer Park Cinema, 96 Deer Park Road, Port Angeles. There will be a short Bible study and discussion about the motorcycle ministry. The club plans to meet at the same time and place the first Saturday of every month. Women’s ministries day of prayer
The Sequim Seventh-day Adventist Church invites the community to join in celebrating a Women’s Ministries Day of Prayer at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 5, at 30 Sanford Lane, Sequim. The entire service will be presented by women, with guest speaker Pastor Jennifer Scott and special music by Amanda Bacon.
Chamber of Commerce seeks executive director
The Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce board of directors has begun recruitment for an executive director to fill the position to be vacated by the current executive director effective April 15.

Applicants must be available for interviews on March 14, with a projected employment start date of April 11. The chamber selection committee will begin reviewing applications on March 7; applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
AAUW meeting change
The American Association of University Women holds its meeting 2-4 p.m. Saturday, March 5, instead of the usual second Saturday date, at the First Presbyterian Church, 139 W. Eighth St., Port Angeles.
The meeting includes a tea honoring the Girl of the Month recipients and their families.

International Women’s
Day celebration
Olympic Cellars hosts an International Women’s Day celebration from 6-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, at 255410 Highway 101, Port Angeles. Women of all ages are invited to enjoy soup and bread provided by local nonprofit Womanfest and hear speakers from Mujeres de Maiz Opportunity Foundation and Serenity House of Clallam County.
A $10 suggested donation goes to the nonprofit groups, along with 30 percent of all sales of wine by the glass.
Clallam Democrats meet
Ken Hays, mayor of Sequim, and Charlie Brandt, manager of the Coastal Science Division of the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory — locally identified as Battelle Marine Sciences Laboratory — are the guest speakers at a meeting of the Clallam County Democratic Club at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, at Pioneer Memorial Park, 387 E. Washington St., Sequim.
Hays and Brandt will discuss the present status of negotiations to annex the Battelle property and how the work and the personnel at the lab mesh with life on the Olympic Peninsula. Call 683-4502.
Vegetarian/vegan potluck
The monthly vegetarian/vegan potluck is at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, in the fellowship hall of the Sequim Seventh-day Adventist Church, 30 Sanford Lane, Sequim.

Organic soil amendment presentation rescheduled
The Master Gardeners’ Green Thumbs Garden Tips brown-bag presentation on organic soil management has been rescheduled for noon Thursday, March 10, at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles. Dr. Curtis Beus, WSU Clallam County Extension Director, will speak. The free presentation was canceled on Feb. 24.
