Blood drives this week
Blood drives for the Puget Sound Blood Center are at three Sequim locations this week. No appointments are required and the need is urgent. Sites include:
• Trinity United Methodist Church: 10 a.m.-noon and 12:45-4 p.m. today, March 16, at 100 Blake Ave.
• First Baptist Church: noon-2 p.m. and 3-6 p.m. Thursday, March 17, at 1323 Sequim-Dungeness Way.
• Sequim Community Church: 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 1:45-5 p.m. Saturday, March 19, at Geneva Hall, 950 N. Fifth Ave.
Presentation for parents today

Open house for U.S. Highway 101 project set
The environmental assessment for a project that would widen U.S. Highway 101 between Sequim and Port Angeles is complete.
The assessment will be available to the public at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 17, at Greywolf Elementary School, 171 Carlsborg Road.
Washington State Department of Transportation Project Engineer Steve Fuchs and other team members will be on hand to discuss the project, which adds an additional lane in each direction, creating a continuous four-lane divided highway between Sequim and Port Angeles.

Shelter Providers Network of Clallam County meets at 9 a.m. today, March 16, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 Lopez Ave., Port Angeles.

Fund in memory of Ellen DeBondt
A fund has been established to assist the family of local nurse Ellen DeBondt, who was killed in a collision on state Highway 112 on March 6.

Mujeres de Maiz presentations
Board members of Mujeres de Maiz Opportunity Foundation will discuss their work in Chiapas, Mexico, at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 17, at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., Port Angeles; and at 3 p.m. Friday, March 25, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.

Tom Taylor concert for CD release
Sequim Christian musician Tom Taylor holds a free concert at 7 p.m. Friday, March 18, at Calvary Chapel Sequim, 91 S. Boyce Road, for his new CD “Solid Rock.”

Land trust tree planting
North Olympic Land Trust plans to plant 400 trees from 10 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m. Saturday, March 19, at the Siebert Creek Conservation Area, at the end of Siebert Creek Road between Port Angeles and Sequim.

Strait Art opening reception
Strait Art, the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center’s annual exhibition of work from regional artists, opens with a reception from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, March 20, at 1203 E. Lauridsen Blvd. The show, “Slivers of Silver,” honors PAFAC’s 25th anniversary and features 44 North Olympic artists working in a range of media. The show continues through May 15. Gallery hours are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday-Sunday. Admission is free.
Online mothers community
Kate Smith, 23, an expectant mother and a lifelong resident of the Olympic Peninsula, and her husband, Chip, have created an online community in conjunction with Northwest Tech & Design to reach out to other local mothers at all stages of motherhood.
They hope to reach out to those trying to conceive, expectant mothers, mothers of toddlers, teenagers and even grandmothers to share stories and experiences.
