Sequim P.D. collects for food bank
Donations for the Sequim Food Bank can be dropped off at the Sequim Police Department, 609 W. Washington St., Suite 16, between 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, except holidays.
A container is available in the lobby during the holiday season. The food bank accepts canned goods, nonperishable items, toiletries and paper goods. For more information, call 683-7227.

Community School’s future to be discussed
A community meeting to discuss the future of the Sequim Community School will be held 6-7:30 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, Nov. 30, in the school’s commons, 220 W. Alder St.
Members of the school board will attend. Superintendent Bill Bentley and members of the facilities committee present an update, with time set aside for small-group discussions. Attendees will be asked for input at the end of the meeting.

Food drop at Castell Insurance open
Castell Insurance is partnering with the Salvation Army to support Operation: Give Thanks. Through Dec. 31, the Castell Insurance office at 426 E. Washington St. in Sequim will be collecting canned goods and other nonperishable food items for donation to the Salvation Army and families in need. The office is open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Grange holds ‘Handmade Christmas Fair’
Sequim Prairie Grange holds its 33rd Handmade Christmas Fair from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at 290 Macleay Road, Sequim.
There will be more than 30 vendors with handmade crafts and gifts, along with a baked-goods table. Lunch also is available.

Hoopsters to don pink for fundraiser
Sequim High School basketball squads will collect funds to fight breast cancer at their home games in December.
Money raised will go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, said SHS girls’ coach Stephanie Lewis.
Both boys’ and girls’ teams will wear pink shoelaces to help raise awareness of breast cancer. Sequim girls also will wear pink during warm-ups.
“We would love to have the community come out dressed in pink to our games,” Lewis said.

Genealogy society hosts holiday potluck
Clallam County Genealogical Society hosts its annual Christmas potluck party from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at the Sequim Prairie Garden Club Clubhouse, 387 E. Washington St. in Sequim.
Attendees should bring a favorite dish to share and may bring a family heirloom to share its story.

Pet photos benefit Humane Society
On Saturday, Dec. 3, from 10 a.m.-noon, Ernst Photography will be providing pet photos for $10 at the City of Port Angeles atrium, between City Hall (321 E. Fifth St.) and the Vern Burton Community Center. Bring your dog or cat for a photo with Santa (portrayed by City of Port Angeles City Manager Kent Myers). Knit Marathon set
To provide winter hats and scarves to children and adults in need, AmeriCorps members and the Port Angeles Senior Center will host a Knit Marathon Project from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, at the Senior Center, 328 E. Seventh St.
Refreshments are provided. Bring materials for hat or scarf projects (yarn, knit/crochet needles.)
Donation boxes for finished projects are at the Senior Center for one week following the marathon.

Lodge hosts breakfast
Port Angeles Masons Lodge #69, 622 S. Lincoln St., Port Angeles, holds an all-you-can-eat breakfast from 8:30 a.m.-noon Sunday, Dec. 4.
The requested donation is $8 for adults and $5 for seniors 65+. Children under 10 are free.
Proceeds benefit the lodge’s charity and scholarship funds.

Bert joins Evergreen Family Village staff
Karen Bert is the new family support specialist for Evergreen Family Village, 2201 W. 18th St., Port Angeles, a Serenity House of Clallam County transitional housing program designed to help homeless families with children achieve self-sufficiency.
Bert formerly was site-services coordinator at Maloney Heights Apartments for single adults.

Friends of Animals Food Drive begins
Peninsula Friends of Animals, a nonprofit, no-kill, cageless animal shelter, has started its annual pet food drive. Local businesses host donation bins at Best Friend Nutrition, Changes Hair Salon, Co-Op Farm & Garden Center, Country Care Vet Service, Fabulous Nails, Frick’s Home Health, Goin’ To The Dogs, Greywolf Veterinary Hospital and Sequim Safeway. The shelter is dependent upon members and the community with donations available for any low-income families with pets.
