Coast Guard offers boating safety class

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary is offering the “About Boating Safety Class” on Saturday, April 8. This course will satisfy Washington and federal boating requirements and provides lifetime coverage. Persons interested in the class at the Coast Guard Station on Ediz Hook should call 452-1135 for full details and reservations before April 6. Certificates will be available at 4 p.m. after the class.

Day of Service set on the Dungeness River

County board to look at rural zoning issues

The Clallam County Planning Commission meets at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

The agenda includes a discussion on proposed changes to the rural zoning district land uses, including: building height requirement in the rural zones; modifying and creating new home enterprise and home-based industry standards; modifying home business definition and adding new definitions for building height and non-commercial horse arena. See birds of prey

The Northwest Raptor &Wildlife Center director Jaye Moore and her volunteer staff will bring birds of prey and give a free presentation at the Dungeness River Audubon Center Amphitheater, 2151 W. Parenting classes on tap

Book sale features sci-fi

The Friends of Sequim Library will hold its monthly book sale from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, April 8, at the Friends building behind the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave. This month’s new items include a large selection of sheet music, over 300 vintage science fiction paperbacks from 1950s-1980s, wood carving instruction, and a 14-volume set of Child Craft from 1947. Proceeds from the sale benefit children’s and adult programming at the Sequim Library.

Graduation party fundraisers continue

High school seniors and parents organizing the Class of 2017’s graduation party are continuing their flamingo fundraiser. Parents of graduating high school seniors are “flocking” lawns in the Sequim area, and the group asks a $25 “fee” to remove flocks. For a $10 donation, “flocked” participants can send the flock to another location. All money raised goes to fund a post-graduation, drug- and alcohol-free party in June. PFOA spring tea tickets on sale

Peninsula Friends of Animals Spring Tea, Fashion Show and Auction ticket sales deadline is approaching. The event is from noon-3 p.m. Saturday, April 8, at Sunland Golf &Country Club, 109 Hilltop Drive, Sequim. Proceeds benefit the PFOA rescue animals.

Sequim High swim boosters plan fundraiser

The booster club for the Sequim High School girls swim team will have a spring market fundraiser from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, April 22, and from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday, April 23, in the SHS cafeteria. Market items include vintage, farmhouse decor, jewelry, LuLaRoe clothing, art, candles, plants and homemade goods.

Republican Women to meet, host chairman

The next Republican Women of Clallam County meeting is at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 22, in the meeting room at First Federal, 333 W. Washington St. in Sequim. Matthew Rainwater, president of Pennies for Quarters, will speak. He is also the chairman of the Clallam County Republican Central Committee.

Kettle’s 76 offering free Easter dinner, hosting sock drive

Kettle’s 76, 194 W. Washington St., Sequim, will offer a free Easter dinner from noon-5 p.m. Saturday, April 15, featuring turkey and fixings. Donations to help the community are welcome.

Kettle’s 76, in partnership with Sun Taxi &Delivery, also is accepting new socks for the Serenity House sock drive through April 15. For one pair, get a free 12-ounce coffee or fountain drink; for a pack, receive $2 off a super or deluxe carwash.

Hospital guild luncheon tickets on sale

The Sequim Dungeness Hospital Guild will hold its annual May luncheon/fashion show and silent auction Thursday, May 11, in Club 7 of 7 Cedars Casino. The social hour will start at 11 a.m. Price for all three events is $20 and tickets may be purchased now at the Guild’s thrift shop, 204 W. Bell St. in Sequim.

More than half the tickets already have been sold. This year’s silent auction will feature 100 items. Also featured will be more than 15 door prizes given out during the event to lucky patrons. This is the primary fundraiser for the Guild and all profits are returned to the medical community of Sequim.

Park free days set

The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission invites the public to celebrate spring and Earth Day with two free days at state parks in April. On free days, visitors don’t need a Discover Pass for day-use visits by vehicle.

The first free day is Saturday, April 15. The next free day is Saturday, April 22, in honor of Earth Day. The free days apply only at state parks; the Discover Pass still is required on WDFW and DNR lands.

Senior menu set

Sequim Senior Nutrition Site menus are served at 4:30 p.m. at the Shipley Center, 921 E. Hammond St., on Tuesdays-Fridays. Suggested donation is $5 (60 and over), $8 guest and a 24-hour advance reservation is needed. RSVP to 683-8491. Menus are subject to change.
