Poets in spotlight at next ‘Conversations’ event

Peninsula College invites the community to participate in the next free “Conversations Toward a Culture of Justice” event, set for 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, on the Zoom platform.

Poets Gary Copeland Lilley and Jourdan Imani Keith will share the microphone.

For the Zoom link, see the pencol.edu webpage.

This event was inspired by a Juneteenth gathering hosted on Youtube by Keith, who the Seattle Civic Poet. She invited Lilley and other poets to join her, to read some of their own original poetry or the work of other poets, and then to engage in dialogue as they honored and celebrated the importance of Juneteenth.

Thursday’s reading will begin with poetry as well, as writers share original works and poems of others.

Car show cancelled

Sequim Museum & Arts has cancelled its benefit car show, scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 15.

It is the organization’s largest fundraiser of the year, said Judith Reandeau Stipe, the museum’s executive director.

“We don’t want anyone in jeopardy of giving or getting this nasty virus,” she said. “We love those cars and will miss our ‘gear heads!’”

The organizations’s building fund is still accepting donations to complete the new museum building on North Sequim Avenue.

Sequim Museum & Arts is open by appointment only to accommodate a few visitors on a tour. Email to sequimmusem@olypen.com or leave a message at 360-681-2257 for more information.
