Cemetery commissioners reset meeting

The Gardiner Community Cemetery Commissioners are rescheduling the Dec. 12 meeting to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, downstairs in the Gardiner Community Center, 1040 Old Gardiner Road. In the new year, commissioners meetings will be meeting every second Thursday, Jan. 9-Dec. 10, 2020, at the Gardiner Community Center. The public is invited to attend.

Guild’s thrift shop is open Saturday

The Sequim Dungeness Hospital Guild’s Thrift Shop at 204 W. Bell St. is open from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20. Featured items include a Burton snow board with bindings, a child’s rocking chair, warm jackets and lots of Christmas decorations. All white-tagged items are half-priced. See the guild’s thrift shop page on Facebook for photos of the items. The shop will close after Dec. 20 and reopen Jan. 6. Volunteers are always needed. Call 360-683-7044 for more information.

Coffee with Mayor on hold for holidays

There will be no Coffee with the Mayor event in the month of December because of holiday schedules. The meetings are expected to resume in 2020. Contact Sequim Mayor Dennis Smith for more information at dsmith@sequimwa.gov.

Soup’s on at St. Luke’s for Christmas, New Year’s

St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave., will continue to have Soup’s On each Wednesday at noon, including Christmas Day, Dec. 25, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, Jan 1.

Soup’s On offers a choice of meat or vegetarian soup, a roll, a salad and a small dessert to all in the community without charge.

St. Luke’s will also have Christmas Eve worship services at 7 p.m. and a Christmas Day service at 10 a.m. — all are welcome.

City seeks parks-arbor-recreation board members

The Sequim City Council is seeking an applicant to fill a vacancy on the Parks, Arbor and Recreation Advisory Board.

This voluntary board meets at 5 p.m. third Monday of each month and advises the City Council on issues involving City parks and public spaces.

The position is open to residents within the Sequim city limits.

Applications are available at the Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar St., or online at www.sequimwa.gov. The position is open until filled.

Fundraiser on tap for Captain Joseph House

Village Concepts of Port Angeles-Park View Villas hosts a holiday pancake breakfast fundraiser to support the Captain Joseph House Foundation, from 7:30-10 a.m. Saturday, Dec.21, at 1430 Park View Lane, Port Angeles.

All funds raised go to Captain Joseph House Foundation, a local nonprofit created to lend support for the Gold Star Families of our military’s fallen heroes.

Cost is by donation: $10 for adults and $7 for seniors; children 6 and younger are free.

State parks seeking volunteers

The Washington State Parks Volunteer Program has various opportunities in 2020 for people who want to give back to state parks with their time and talent.

State Parks is looking for individual volunteers and groups such as schools, service organizations and corporations.

Volunteer roles include: camp hosting; maintaining trails, campgrounds and park landscaping; assisting with interpretive programs; restoring habitat; doing minor repairs; performing office duties, and organizing and assisting with events.

Hours spent volunteering on qualifying projects can earn volunteers a complimentary Discover Pass.

County committee meeting canceled

The Dec. 18 meeting of the Clallam County Planning Commission meeting has been cancelled, officials noted last week. The commission will reconvene at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 15, at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Suite 5, Port Angeles. Call 360-417-2277 for more information.
