Warming center accepting sleeping bags, blankets

The Sequim Warming Center, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave., is accepting sleeping bags and heavy blankets for use at the center. To donate bags and/or blankets, call Sam McCulloch at 360-301-9350, to meet at a nearby storage shed; individuals are asked to not drop off donated items at the church/center itself.

The Sequim Warming Center is open 9 p.m.-7 a.m. to help get people out of the cold, with a brightly-lit facility and warming items on hand. Coffee and food may be available, depending on supplies. Capacity at the warming center is 25 people.

Center managers determine 24 hours in advance to open the center when temperatures and wind chill factors drive temperatures toward the freezing level. When that determination is made, signs are put up in 10 locations in Sequim (including at the church), and emails go out to groups that have signed up for notices.

The center will be open the evening of Christmas Eve (Dec. 24), Christmas Day (Dec. 25) and New Year’s Eve (Dec. 31).
