UPDATE: Legal aid clinic slated in PA is postponed
An event sponsored by the Clallam-Jefferson County Pro Bono Lawyers — “Law at The Landing,” a free, drop-in, legal advice clinic for members of the public — has been postponed because of inclement weather.
The event had been set for noon-2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at The Landing Mall in Port Angeles.
Notice of the postponement came after the Gazette’s print deadline for the Feb. 6.

Panel examines compassion as dynamic force
A panel of presenters speaking at Peninsula College’s Studium Generale presentation looks at making compassion a “clear, luminous and dynamic force in our polarized world” at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, at PC’s Little Theater, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.
The panel, comprised of contributors from across the community, will focus on ways to use compassion to “understand, lead, influence and create better outcomes in healthcare, education, business, social service and community well-being,” program organizers say.
Presenters include: Aleilah Lawson, wellness coordinator for the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe; Amy Miller of Rediscovery Program PAPD/VIMO; Upward Bound educators Hilary Powers; mediator/business coach Laura O’Neal; Dr. Lissa Lubinski; Marilyn Eash of the interfaith community, and attorney Michael Hatch. Rally in the Alley set, Feb. 9
The City of Sequim, in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Clallam County and Olympic Disposal, hosts the next Rally in the Ally community clean-up on Saturday, Feb. 9, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. — or until the dumpsters are full.
Dumpsters are will be located at Seventh Avenue and West McCurdy Road, and Sixth Avenue and West Maple Street.
Volunteers will be on site to assist city residents with discarding unwanted items at no cost to residents. No tires, appliances, liquid paint, gas, fuel or oil will be accepted.

Cemetery board to meet
The Gardiner Community Cemetery meeting for Thursday, Feb. 14, has been rescheduled to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 7, at the Gardiner Community Center, 1040 Old Gardiner Road; the public is invited to attend.
Friends group sets library sale
The Friends of Sequim Library hosts its monthly book sale from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave. Newly-donated items include large selection of audio books on CD and books by Janet Evanovich. DVDs are half-price. Also featured are Pacific Northwest Lighthouses, books of interest to automobile enthusiasts, a section devoted to Great Britain, and a small leather bound set of JRR Tolkien’s works.
Proceeds from the sale benefit children’s and adult programs at the Sequim Library.
Senior singles group to meet Saturday
The Sequim Senior Singles, an organization for single, widowed, divorced individuals over 55, hosts the group’s February meeting from noon-2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9, at Las Palomas Restaurant, 1085 E. Washington St. Sequim Senior Singles members meet for game days, walking activities and other social events; it is not a dating group.
On Feb. 9, the group we will be having an off-the-menu Mexican meal and a guest speaker with a presentation, “Call 911: Then What?” All are welcome.

Guest speaker Andrea Betts presents ”Who Are These People? Using Photos in Genealogy” at the next Genealogy Society of Clallam County meeting, set for 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, Feb. 9, at Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church, 925 N. Sequim Ave.

Bill addresses long-term care
Representatives of the Puget Sound Advocates for Retirement Action (PSARA) Education Fund will present information on legislation to help address what they call the growing need for affordable long-term care from 2-3:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, at Olympic Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 1033 Barr Road, Port Angeles.
Three presenters — Robby Stern, President of the PSARA Education Fund; Karen Richter, PSARA Membership Vice President, and Tim Wheeler, a Sequim resident and a family caregiver — will answer questions about proposed House Bill 1087, the Long Term Care Trust Act.
