Here are some upcoming events in the Sequim community

PFOA fundraiser is today

Black Bear Diner is hosting Dine to Donate all day today, Feb. 11, to benefit Peninsula Friends of Animals. A portion of the day’s proceeds will benefit its mission of rescue, spay/neuter and community service programs. Just mention you’re dining to support a Safe Haven for Animals. PFOA’s unique potholders also will be available for purchase.

Singing Valentines

Are you looking for something different for your loved one on Valentine’s Day? How about a Singing Valentine presented by the quartet No Batteries Required? For $40 the quartet will deliver two songs and a red rose to your loved one or for $25 the quartet will call someone and sing a song over the phone. No Batteries Required is part of the Olympic Peninsula Men’s Chorus a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization located in the Sequim/Port Angeles area. To schedule your singing Valentine call, 681-7761.

Miata lovers to meet

The Olympic Peninsula chapter of Club Miata Northwest meets at 11:30 a.m. every second Thursday at the Black Bear Diner, 1471 E. Washington St., Sequim. The next meeting is Feb. 12. All Miata owners and fans are encouraged to attend to find out about upcoming drives and events. RSVP to kidchellin@gmail.com.

Grange goings-on

The Sequim Prairie Grange, 290 Macleay Road, Sequim, will host a spaghetti dinner from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13.

The $10 cost includes spaghetti, green salad, garlic bread, ice cream and cookies. Proceeds will benefit the grange’s many projects.

On Feb. 15 from 6-9 p.m. the grange will host a Sweet Heart Dance with the Buck Ellard Band. Cost is $10 per person, $15 a couple or $25 a family. Food will be provided. Everyone, including non-dancers, are invited to attend and enjoy the evening.

Coffeehouse card games

Sequim Deaf Coffeehouse will meet from noon-3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, in Geneva Hall, at 960 N. Fifth Ave. and Cape Hope Way in Sequim. Members will play cards. Art show aids spay program

The RedHouse Press Studio/Gallery will be hosting an art show with the theme “Love All Creatures — Great and Small” to benefit Spay to Save. Spay to Save is a not for profit animal advocacy group that provides affordable spaying and neutering in Clallam County. The exhibit opens Saturday, Feb. 14, and will run through Sunday, Feb. 22. Hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at RedHouse Press, 681 Lotzgesell Road, Sequim. For more information, call L.D. Lawrence at 775-1132.

Researching with newspapers

Sue Mendenhall will speak on newspaper research at the Clallam County Genealogical Society general meeting Saturday, Feb. 14, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 N. Blake Ave., Sequim. Members and guests are invited to come early for coffee and snacks before the 10 a.m.-noon event. Mendenhall’s career included literary research.

Monthly book sale set

The Friends of the Sequim Library will have its monthly book sale from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, behind the library at 630 N. Sequim Ave.

Monday Musicale meets

Monday Musicale will meet at noon Monday, Feb. 16, at Queen of Angeles fellowship hall, 209 W. 11th St., Port Angeles, followed by entertainment at 1 p.m. RSVP to Ruth Welch at 457-5223.

Digital safety class slated

Learn how to better protect yourself and your loved ones from online threats like identity theft, cyber bullying and phishing, through smart digital safety practices. The Jamestown Tribal Library presents a 90-minute class with instructor Renne Brock-Richmond from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.

Shelter Providers meetings move to courthouse

Beginning with its Feb. 18 meeting, the Shelter Providers Network of Clallam County is moving to Room 160 of the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles. Sign in for the 9-10:30 a.m. meeting begins at 8:45 a.m. The Shelter Providers meet the third Wednesday of most months to coordinate services to prevent and end homelessness.

Taking care of you

 

At 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, the

Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., continues its “Taking Care of You” health series with a free presentation about healthier digestion and what it means for your overall health. Naturopathic physician Janelle Doolittle explains how to eat in ways that support proper breakdown and absorption of nutrients, as well as the importance of cultivating a good bacterial balance in your gut. Doolittle also will offer tips for alleviating common digestive ailments and discuss their impacts on your body. Doolittle is a naturopathic physician who practices in Port Angeles.

 

Schools reset meeting date

The next meeting of the Sequim School Board of Directors is 6 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 18. The board changed the meeting date from Feb. 17 to one day later because of scheduling conflicts. Call 582-3260.

Miller to meet with residents

The City of Sequim “Coffee with the Mayor” program continues at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, at Adagio Bean and Leaf, 981 E. Washington St. Sequim residents can meet informally with council member Ted Miller, sitting in for the mayor. The mayor or a city council representative will be at a different published location each month to listen to anyone who wants to chat, ask questions, express a concern, or make a comment about the city or the community.

Veterans town hall scheduled

The Governor’s Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee will be holding a Veterans Town Hall from 10 a.m.-noon Thursday, Feb. 19, at Clallam County commissioners office, Room 160, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles. Community partners and service providers will be sharing how they are serving veterans and their families from the area. Soroptimists seek applicants

Soroptimist International of Sequim is looking for potential community organizations to be recipients of the club’s funds. Each year club members carefully choose projects to support that align with their mission to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment.

Senior Nutrition menu set

Sequim Senior Nutrition Site menus are served at 4:30 p.m. at Suncrest Village Retirement Apartments, 251 S. Fifth Ave. Suggested donation is $5 (60 and over), $8 guest, and a 24-hour advance reservation is needed. RSVP to 683-8491. Menus are subject to change.
