Grange sets food fundraiser
The Sequim Prairie Grange #1108 is hosting a “Let Us Cook Your Entire Meal for the Big Game” fundraiser to help continue running grange running without using the organization’s Roof Fund.
Grange members are serving half racks ($20) or full racks ($35) of pork ribs, potato salad and baked beans. Both half and full rack orders include the potato salad and beans.
Order deadline is Sunday, Jan. 31. Order by calling 360-461-1385 or 360-302-0959.
Orders can be picked up between 3-6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, in the parking lot at the Sequim Prairie Grange, 290 Macleay Road.
Those ordering are asked to use checks or correct cash.
City closes park bathrooms
The restrooms on the south side of Carrie Blake Community Park near the pickleball courts are closed until further notice because of electrical issues, city officials said Wednesday (Jan. 20).
In addition, there is currently no electrical power at the pickleball courts.
The restrooms on the north side of the park at the Water Reuse Site remain open.

Friends group adds special book sale
Thanks to a special donation from the estate of Patricia Danes of Sequim, the Friends of Sequim Library have added a special sale from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 30 — midway between the group’s monthly book sale events — at the Rock Plaza location on old Olympic Highway.
Danes donated more than 900 like-new cookbooks.
Attendees are required to observe social distancing and wear a mask. All proceeds will go to the library for special programs and equipment.
Coffee With the Mayor sessions resume on KSQM
The City of Sequim continues to partner with KSQM FM radio to host a live call-in session of Coffee with the Mayor at 8 a.m. on Thursday, Jan 28.
Residents are encouraged to tune into 91.5 FM or visit ksqmfm.com/live, where Sequim mayor William Armacost will be joined by Public Works Director David Garlington to answer questions and receive comments.

Sequim Wreaths Across America organizers eye 2021 event
Organizers of the Sequim Wreaths Across America event in 2020 say they are planning to host a second event on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2021.
The event, free and open to the community, is part of a nonprofit movement to honor those who have served in the U.S. military, their families and living veterans, and to teach the next generation about the value of freedom.
In December 2020, Sequim volunteers laid 577 live Veteran Remembrance Wreaths on headstones and grave markers at Sequim View Cemetery, joining 2,557 participating locations around the country.
The national Wreaths Across America group announced its 2021 theme is “Live Up to Their Legacy.”

Habitat for Humanity of Clallam County hosts its annual meeting on Zoom at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28.

Poet Laureate sets PC presentation, conversation
National Poet Laureate, author and acclaimed musician Joy Harjo will read poetry then join in conversation with students from the First Nations Club at Peninsula College in a virtual Jan. 28 Studium Generale, beginning at 12:30 p.m.
Harjo was appointed the 23rd United States Poet Laureate, and is the first Native American to hold this position. She is an internationally known award-winning poet, writer, performer, and saxophone player of the Mvskoke/Creek Nation.

Building for the Future Conference set in March
The 26th-annual Building for the Future Conference will be presented by the Olympic Peninsula Chapter of the Washington Association for the Education of Young Children, in partnership with the North Olympic Library System (NOLS).
The conference will be held on Zoom from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, March 1. Registration is required; register at www.nols.org or by calling a local NOLS branch.
This free virtual conference is designed to offer insight and education focusing on youth trauma and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), and coping mechanisms related to COVID-19. It features four presentations, with a collaborative lunch hour highlighting community programs and resources.
The conference is geared toward those who work or live with young children; six STARS/MERIT hours are available.
