Sequim Bay Yacht Club to host marina manager

Jon Picker, the Port of Port Angeles’s new marina and airport manager, will speak at the Sequim Bay Yacht Club’s general meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 11, starting at 6:30 p.m. in the Hendricks Room at John Wayne Marina, 2577 W. Sequim Bay.

Besides describing his military experience, Picker has been asked to discuss how the club and Port can work together for the benefit of the marina’s users and the community as a whole.

He is also expected to describe the improvements he’d like to see at John Wayne Marina and what changes are planned to keep the marina a financially viable operation.

The public is invited to the presentation; there is no admission charge.

Picker, who joined the Port of Port Angeles in July 2022, moved to Port Angeles in 2013 after retiring as a captain after a 30-year career in the U.S. Navy. He became the NJROTC senior naval science Instructor at Port Angeles High School. During his tenure, the Roughriders won multiple state championships and were recognized as one of the top programs in the nation.

A University of Washington graduate, Picker was commissioned in 1983, and completed flight school in Pensacola FL in 1985. He was assigned to multiple different air wings, ranging from Guam to North Island CA and Norfolk VA. His last seagoing assignment was aboard the USS Tarawa for an Arabian Gulf deployment. His shore duty assignments covered a variety of staff positions. His final assignment in the Navy was with Joint Force Command Lisbon.
