Dessert, quilt auction at grange

The All Grange Desserts and Quilts Auction is set for 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, July 17, in the Glenda Clark Outdoor Kitchen at the Sequim Prairie Grange, 290 Macleay Road. The event includes a variety of baked items. Those who would like to donate a dessert item are asked to deliver it between 10 a.m.-noon on July 17 to the Sequim grange.

Proceeds from dessert sales go to all granges involved.

Proceeds from the quilt sales go to the Sequim Prairie Grange; Karen Grimsley donated several quilts to the grange in memory of her husband who was a lifetime member.

Kiwanis club selling water filters for fundraiser

The Kiwanis Club of Sequim-Dungeness is selling the emergency-H2O water filter roll-up devices as a fundraiser and to help Olympic peninsula communities be better prepared for disaster.

Club members will be selling the filters from 2-6 p.m. Saturday, July 17, at the Mariner Café, 609 W. Washington St.

They now cost $50 each, total. Pay with cash or check.

Bike run to aid vets organization

The Smokers-N-Strokers’ annual Wounded Warrior Run is set for Saturday, July 17, starting at The Front Street Alibi, 1605 Front St., Port Angeles.

Registration is $15 per person and starts at 9 a.m., with kickstands up at 11 a.m.

All are invited to the event that includes food and live music; no bike is needed to attend.

Funds raised go to the Wounded Warrior Project, a nonprofit organization that helps veterans and active duty service members.

Hospital guild’s garage, plant sale set for July 23-24

The Sequim Guild of Seattle Children’s Hospital hosts its 14th annual Garage & Plant Sale from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. on July 23 and 24, at two locations. Shoppers can join in at 81 Timothy Lane or 921 E. Oak St., both in Sequim. Pick up a map at either site and follow it to plants, collectibles, patio furnishings, clothes, books, artwork, a player piano with scrolls and more. Visit both sites to be entered in a drawing for a cedar glider bench.

All proceeds go for research and uncompensated care at Seattle Children’s Hospital, where last year Clallam and Jefferson County children made more than 2,500 visits and received $1.8 million in uncompensated care, guild members say.

Charitable project grants available via local trust

The Ben and Myrtle Walkling Memorial Trust is accepting applications for grants to be awarded in 2022.

The trust awards grants to encourage new civic and charitable projects to benefit citizens of Port Angeles and Clallam County.

For applications, send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to The Ben and Myrtle Walkling Memorial Trust, PO Box 1588, Port Angeles, WA 98362. Or, apply by email to walklingtrust@gmail.com.

Submit completed applications by Sept. 30.

Requests to fund organizational budgets or to pay for existing or ongoing projects are not likely to be approved, trust representatives said.

Myrtle Walkling, who died in 1992, created the trust in her will and funded it with more than $1 million.

Child care job fair on tap in PA

A job fair for those interested in child care positions is set for 10 a.m.-noon on Saturday, July 31, at the Vern Burton Community Center, 308 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

Lean about jobs in child care centers, after-school jobs in recreation centers and outdoor adventure camps, or about career paths to become school teachers, and get more information about how to run a child care center.

Volunteer with Assured Hospice

Assured Hospice of Clallam and Jefferson Counties is seeking volunteers who can provide support and companionship to hospice patients.
