Flag Day ceremony
American Legion, Jack Grennan Post 62 invites the public to attend a Flag Day ceremony at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, at 107 E. Prairie St. in Sequim.
This time-honored American tradition will feature a military-style flag retirement ceremony — a solemn tribute to a single, worn U.S. flag, honoring the enduring symbol of the nation’s freedom, unity and sacrifice.
The ceremony will be led by Post 62 Commander Nancy Zimmerman, who also serves on the executive board of the Michael Trebert Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).
The 250th birthday of the U.S. Army will also be recognized at this event.
Afterward, guests can enjoy refreshments, including a patriotic flag cake and cookies provided by the Michael Trebert DAR Chapter.
Shredding event
The Sequim Free Clinic’s Community Shredding Event sponsored by Sound Community Bank will take place Saturday, June 21, from 9:30 a.m. to noon (or until the truck is full) in the front parking lot at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave.
Items should be limited to three standard banker boxes or bags of personal, confidential paper documents such as tax returns, medical records, bank statements and other sensitive materials. They will be shredded onsite by a professional shredding service and all shredded paper will be recycled.
To ensure everyone has the opportunity to shred their important documents, all participants are asked to review and remove all items such as junk mail, schoolwork catalogs, newspapers, magazines, and all papers that can be recycled with curbside recycling collection.
Suggested donations of $20 or more will help support The Sequim Free Health Clinic. All participants in the shredding event can enter a drawing for a variety of door prizes from local merchants.
For more information, call the clinic at 360-582-0218.

GOP lunch, fundraiser
The Clallam County Republican Party will hold its annual Lincoln Day Luncheon and Auction from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, at Sequim Prairie Grange, 290 Macleay Road.
The local party’s largest fundraiser of the year will offer barbecue, both a silent and live auction, and a keynote speech from Brian Heywood of Let’s Go Washington.
Heywood, an entrepreneur and founder of Let’s Go Washington, led the fight to get six initiatives on the ballot last year, including the restoration of police pursuits and protecting parents’ rights. Heywood and Let’s Go Washington have indicated an interest in fighting back against the Legislature’s $9 billion tax hike and legislation gutting the parent rights initiative just passed last year.
Tickets are $45 until June 15 when they will increase to $55. They can be purchased online at clallamrepublicans.org or in-person at the office located at 509 S. Lincoln St. in Port Angeles. The office is open Monday-Friday between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
