Care packages going out this week

A Community Point of Distribution (CPOD) for COVID Food Care Packages opens today, Wednesday, June 3, and will be open each Wednesday through Aug. 19. Drivers are asked to the west entrance of the Sequim Middle School parking lot, 301 W. Hendrickson Road, and line up to receive one box each of non-perishable food, perishable food and dairy products.

The Clallam County Emergency Operation Center asked the Sequim Emergency Coordination Center to set up the CPOD in support of a county-wide COVID Food Care Package program.

‘Fudge for Fasteners’ in June

Trade a 2-pound box of screws or nails (any size/type fastener) from any of three local building supply stores for a piece of fudge during the month of June.

“Fudge for Fasteners” is a collaboration between local businesses and the nonprofit Habitat for Humanity of Clallam County. Donations of fasteners from Clallam Co-Op Farm & Garden (216 E. Washington St.) in Sequim or Angeles Millworks (1601 S. C St.) or Hartnagel Building Supply (3111 US Highway 101) in Port Angeles dropped off at WeDo Fudge at 11 Valley Center Place, Carlsborg, earns a piece of fudge.

All fasteners will be donated to Habitat for Humanity of Clallam County to be used on their two new home builds starting soon, organization representatives said last week. Email to info@habitat cllallam.org or see www.habitatclallam.org for more information.

City opens amenities at Carrie Blake Park

Following Clallam County and the City of Sequim’s move into Phase 2 of Gov. Inslee’s Safe Start response plan to COVID-19 this week, city officials announced more openings at Carrie Blake Community Park.

Four of eight pickleball courts are open with the other four opening when Sequim moves into Phase 3. Softball fields are open for practice with five people or less and no games or tournaments are allowed. Bocce ball and shuffleboard courts and horseshoe pits on the north side of the Albert Haller playfields also opened.

New park hosts Jim and Laurajean Fearn are located on the southside of the Shiso Sister City Friendship Garden through Oct. 31. Call 360-582-2458.
