Library friends host book sale

The Friends of Sequim Library will hold the group’s monthly book sale from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, June 8, at the Friends building behind the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.

This month’s sale includes select paperbacks for $1 per box in the outside sales area. Inside specials include hardcover sets of Sherlock Holmes, Mark Twain and Ernest Hemingway. There is also a newly-donated collection of books about Hawaii, as well as many fitness instruction volumes. Also featured is a wide range of works about the religion and history of the Jewish people.

Proceeds from the sale benefit children’s and adult programs at the Sequim Library.

Trinity United holds rummage sale

A clown figurine collection and Hummel figurines will be among items for sale at Trinity United Methodist Church’s annual rummage sale.

Hours are 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday (June 7) and 9 a.m.- 1 p.m. Saturday, June 8, at the church, 100 S. Blake Ave. Merchandise also includes clothing, toys, tools, books, kitchenware, linens, jewelry, furniture and a ladies boutique.

Proceeds benefit the church’s community projects.

Mosaic’s monthly dance set for Saturday

Clallam Mosaic, a local nonprofit empowering people with special needs, will be hosting their monthly dance from noon-2 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, at at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 510 E. Park Ave., Port Angeles.

Calling all superheroes: Come as your favorite superhero and enjoy the music, dancing and friendship.

Door charge for the dance is $8. Accompanying caregivers attend for free, though donations are accepted to defray the costs.

A light meal features sloppy joes, fruit salad, veggie salad, sugar free cookies and other desserts. Coffee, tea and water are available.

The next dance is scheduled for July 13.

Dance to raise funds for scholarships

P.E.O. Chapter FY in Sequim hosts a barn dance featuring the Buck Ellard Band starting at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 8, at 322 Clark Road. Proceeds raise money to help educate women in memory of Glenda Clark.

The event includes food, door prizes, raffles, a silent auction and dancing. Cost is $15 per person.

United Way ‘Cook-Off’ slated for June 8

Find out which restaurant has the best wings on the Olympic Peninsula at the Jeff Pearson Memorial wing cook-off competition, set for 5-7 p.m. Saturday, June 8, at the Gateway Transit Center in downtown Port Angeles.

A $30 ticket gets attendees an all-access VIP ticket that includes premium seating at the event, two free beverages and wing tasting from all competitors. Each VIP ticket holder will be placed in a drawing for the chance to be a guest judge for the wing cook-off. Entry is free to listen to live music performed by Black Diamond Junction. A beer garden sponsored by Columbia Distributing will be available for those 21 and older.

The event benefits two local nonprofits: Pennies for Quarters and United Way of Clallam County. The event honors the late Jeff Pearson, who helped start plans for the cook-off when he worked for Coyote BBQ Pub/Kokopelli Grill.

Grange serving up ice cream social

The Sequim Prairie Grange, 290 Macleay Road, hosts its first Ice Cream Social for the year from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, June 9. Cost is $5. For more information, call Loretta at 360-582-0100.

‘Making Retirement Security Real’ for All

Come learn how Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid were won, and what to do to protect and improve these programs for present and future generations at “Making Retirement Security Real for All,” a presentation set for 2-3:45 p.m. Sunday, June 9, at Olympic Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 1033 N. Barr Road.

This free event is open to the public and presented by Indivisible Sequim and Puget Sound Advocates for Retirement Action.

PT to host smart meters, 5G program

“Smart Meters & 5G — Community Educational Program” is being held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, June 7, at the Port Townsend Community Center, 620 Tyler St., Port Townsend.

Videos include excerpts from “Wireless Wake-Up Call,” “Smart Meter Effects on Blood Cells” and “5G: FCC & Senate Hearing Statements.”

Speakers include Jason Parkinson of Clallam Against Smart Meters (“Overview of EMF Research”), Ana Wolpin from Smart Meters Objectors Group (“Meters in Jefferson County”), and engineer Tony Corrado (“Why is 5G Different?”).

Additional speakers for a question-and-answer session include Sebastian Eggert of Spectum Analytics, Luke Mason of the Olympic Peninsula Regenerative Agriculture Alliance and Frank Springob.

Birds and Beverages

Join an informal gathering of birders of all abilities, organized by the Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society, starting at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11, at Wind Rose Cellars, 143 W. Washington St.

Those interested in birds, are invited to the meeting where attendees meet other birders, ask where to find birds, share favorite spots, ask bird feeding questions, share bird photography tips, discuss research and more. Beer, wine, non-alcoholic beverages and snacks will be available for purchase.

Bee business owner is SBYC guest speaker

Margaret Depew of the Sequim Bee Farm will give a presentation about beekeeping from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, at John Wayne Marina, 2577 W. Sequim Bay Road.

The event is free and the general public is invited.

Depew will touch on the history of honeybees and beekeeping, provide a beginning lesson about the workings of a hive and sharing why bees are so important to use. She will talk about the role of bees in the food chain and what each of us can do to protect pollinators.

The Sequim Bee Farm is a small, award-winning apiary on the North Olympic Peninsula, surrounded by hundreds of acres of undisturbed mountain terrain. Samples will be available to taste.

Show & Shine planned for Father’s Day

The Peninsula Dream Machines group hosts a Show & Shine Hot Rods & Hot Dogs event at the Pumpkin Patch — at the corner of Kitchen-Dick Road and US Highway 101 — from noon-3 p.m. on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 16.

Hot dogs, while they last, are free. The event includes raffles and other activities, and the entire community is invited.

Road changes subject of county, city meeting

Representatives from the Clallam County commissioners and public works/road departments will be holding a public meeting concerning the upcoming projects at the Sequim-Dungeness/Woodcock Road Intersection, Medsker Road and Evans Road improvements, starting at 4 p.m., Monday, June 17, at the Sequim Civic Center’s council chambers, 152 W. Cedar St.

The purpose of this meeting is to update the public about the projected timeline and next steps for the roundabout project; take input on the concept of making Medsker Road one-way to improve safety, and to take input on the concept of decommissioning the east-west section of Evans Road that intersects with Sequim Dungeness Way.

Outing set for hikes with disabilities

A group hike and picnic for people with disabilities or anyone else who needs a supportive, slow-moving group is set for 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, June 22, at the Dungeness Recreation Area. The group will hike the path along the bluffs; the trail is level, hard-packed sand and earth, and there are many benches and tables to rest. Wheelchair users can use this trail with off-road tires or with assistance in a standard wheelchair.

Shipley Center hosts BBQ

The Shipley Center’s Independence Day BBQ is set for Wednesday, July 3, at 921 E. Hammond St. Tickets are $10 for members, $13 for non-members. The barbecue includes hamburgers and hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans and milkshakes. Pie raffle tickets are $1. Call 360-683-6806 for more information.
