Kids Fest on tap in PA

The annual Kids Fest is scheduled for 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, March 11, at the Vern Burton Community Center, 308 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

Sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Port Angeles and Lutheran Community Services Northwest, the free event is for parents and children.

Local agencies and programs will have activities for children and information for parents.

The event also features Clallam County Community Safety Day, sponsored by Clallam County Emergency Management.

Friends’ book sale set

The Friends of Sequim Library group hosts its 2nd Saturday Book Sale from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on March 11, at 10175 Rock Plaza. Of interest are art and art instruction, cooking and a generous supply of science fiction materials.

Attendees are encouraged to come early for the best selection. All proceeds go to the Sequim Library.

Studium Generale to screen ‘Dear Georgina’

At 12:35 p.m. on Thursday, March 9, Peninsula College’s Studium Generale will screen the documentary “Dear Georgina,” followed by a discussion of the Upstander Project.

A 15-minute documentary, “Dear Georgina” tells the story of Georgina Sappier-Richardson, who was removed from her home and Passamaquoddy community in Maine by Child Protective Services. She would never see her parents again. Terror and abuse followed over 16 years in four different foster homes.

Following the film will be a discussion with Dr. Mishy Lesser, the Learning Director for the film and for Upstander Project. An Emmy award-winning researcher,Lesser has authored Upstander Project’s many learning and viewer guides and is a Strassler Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies Affiliate.

Dr. Lesser was a Fulbright Scholar in Ecuador and spent 12 years learning and working in the Andes. She is a descendant of Ashkenazi Jews whose ancestral language is Yiddish and lives with her husband in the territory of the Massachusett Tribe.

History center in spotlight at Learning our Landscape event

Jamestown S’Klallam Tribal Library, in collaboration with the North Olympic History Center, presents an update on the center’s projects at the next Learning Our Landscape series event, set for 3 p.m. Thursday, March 9, on Zoom.

Hear from the center’s executive director, David Brownell, who will provide updates on projects including collections digitization, exhibits and more.

Women’s conference set for March 10-11

Olympic Peninsula Women’s Fellowship hosts its sixth annual Inspirational Weekend on March 10-11 at Sequim Community Church, 950 N. Fifth Ave.

Guest speaker Laura Seifert, an author, teacher and founder of Yes Ministries, has been a featured presenter at numerous retreats and conferences around the U.S. The weekend’s theme is “Be Free,” with organizers saying its focus is “on our freedom in Christ when we learn to forgive.”

Check out ‘Tea to Die For’

Death Café “Tea to Die For,” sponsored by Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County, is set for 4-5:30 p.m. on Monday, March 13, in the KSQM-FM Community Room, 609 W. Washington St.

A Port Angeles session will also take place from 4-5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, in the craft room upstairs at the Port Angeles Senior Center, 328 E. Seventh St.

The groups are free and open to all. Tea, coffee and snacks will be served.

Conversations are held every second Monday in Sequim and every fourth Wednesday in Port Angeles. They are meant to foster relaxed and informal discussions surrounding death and dying and open to anyone curious or apprehensive about death, organizers say.
