Plant sale/car show set

A plant sale accompanied by a car show is set for 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave.

Plants available will include vegetable starts, tomatoes, herbs, annual and perennial flowers, sedums, house plants, African violets and shrubs. Other garden-related items also will be offered.

The Sequim Valley Car Club will have a display of antique and vintage vehicles in the church parking lot.

County board to talk rec vehicle camping

The Clallam County Planning Commission meets at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles. The meeting’s agenda includes a discussion regarding recreational vehicle camping and living on private lots.

Indian education meeting slated for parents

An informational meeting for parents about the Sequim School’s Title VI Indian Education Program is set for 5-6 p.m., Friday, May 11, with dinner included, in the Elders Lounge at the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe’s Social & Community Services Building, 70 Zacarrdo Road.

Master Gardeners set annual plant sale

Native plants and shrubs, ground covers, herbs, perennials and vegetable starts will all be for sale Saturday, May 5, at the annual Master Gardener Foundation of Clallam County Plant Sale, held at the Master Gardener Demonstration Garden, 2711 Woodcock Road, Sequim.

In a change from prior years, the sale will be a one day event only. From 9 a.m.-noon all items will be sold at full price; any remaining items will be marked down to half-price and available for sale between 12:30-2 p.m.

Plant Sale chair Betsy Burlingame said that all plants have been cultivated locally and Master Gardeners have pruned and potted the plants. Each plant has been labeled with its name,description and cultivation requirements.

Master Gardeners will be on hand at the sale to help gardeners select plants for the growing conditions of their property and answer questions.

Garden art, gardening supplies/equipment, books as well as baskets are also for sale.

All proceeds will be used to further education and demonstration garden programs in Clallam County.

Track team raising funds for equipment, travel

Members of the Sequim High School track and field team are selling tickets for an flapjack fundraiser set for 9-11 a.m. on Sunday, May 6, at Applebee’s Grill and Bar, 130 River Road.

The team, head coach Brad Moore said, is raising funds to replace to top cover of the pole vault pit (estimated cost of $1,500), construct a school record board, travel money for district and state meets, as well as continue to replace hurdle boards and replace implements as needed such as discs, javelins, etc.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased from the team members, at the door on Sunday or at the high school office (601 N. Sequim Ave.). Breakfast includes pancakes, syrup, butter, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, milk, juice and coffee.

Toastmasters set meeting

Seattle expert Jim Sultan presents “Taking the Fear Out of Public Speaking” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, at The Gathering Place in

Sunland, 137 Fairway St. Hosted by Skwim Toastmasters, the event is free and open to the public.

Sultan served as International Director of Toastmasters from 2011-2013.

Skwim Toastmasters is part of Toastmasters International, a worldwide nonprofit educational organization that “empowers individuals to become more effective communicators and leaders.” The Sequim club meets on the first, second, and third Tuesdays of the month from 7-8:30 p.m. at The Gathering Place.

Purse auction/fundraiser on tap in Port Angeles

Members of the Soroptimist International of Port Angeles Jet Set host a Cinco de Mayo purse auction scholarship fundraiser from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at the Port Angeles Yacht Club, 1305 Marine Dr.

Enjoy food, fun and purse shopping. Tickets are $20 and may be purchased online at www.sijetset.com.

Proceeds go to scholarships for Port Angeles women and girls.

P.E.O. putting on Bunco fundraiser on May 8

Chapter IV P.E.O. (Philanthropic Education Organization) will host a Bunco and silent auction fundraiser starting at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 510 E. Park Ave., Port Angeles.

The event is open to the public. Appetizers, desserts and beverages will be served.

Prizes will be awarded; there is a $10 donation to participate.

All proceeds from the event will benefit Women’s Education Scholarships.

P.E.O. is an international philanthropic education organization for women. The Olympic Peninsula P.E.O. Reciprocity is made up of 13 Chapters.

PBH hosts guest speaker, fundraiser on May 11

Peninsula Behavioral Health hosts a free community event spotlighting Kevin Hines and his story of his suicide attempt and his work and story of hope since the incident 17 years ago, set for 3:30 p.m. Friday, May 11, at Civic Field in Port Angeles.

Following the event is a fundraising dinner at The Cedars at Dungeness, 1965 Woodcock Road, Sequim.

SOE’s ‘Healing Adventure’ scheduled for May 18-20

Survivor’s Outdoor Experience (SOE) presents the seventh “Healing Adventure” at the Olympic NatureBridge Campus, on Lake Crescent in the Olympic National Park. The retreat is designed to be a healing experience for all.

SOE is a non-profit educational and recreational organization. This program was developed to provide cancer survivors of all ages an opportunity to learn about the benefits of living a healthy and active lifestyle. The program provides a curriculum of informative presentations balanced with recreational activities. The goal is to assist participants in gaining strength, hope, and a sense of the future.
