Breakfast with Santa set for Saturday

The annual Breakfast with Santa is set for 8:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Sequim Middle School cafeteria, 301 W. Hendrickson Road.

Enjoy a morning of crafts, music and fun that benefits Parenting Matters Foundation and the First Teacher program.

Santa has a free book for each child. The event also features raffle items.

Cost is $10 for those 11 and older, $5 for children of ages 2-10, and those not yet 2 are free. Get tickets online at m.bpt.me/event/3739632 or at the door.

Thrift shop open Saturday

The Sequim Dungeness Hospital Guild’s thrift shop, 204 W. Bell St., is open 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1. Featured items include a child’s toy chest with bench, holiday attire and decorations, kitchenware and dishware for big dinners, puzzle, books, jewelry and handbags. All white tagged items will be half-price. The shop closes Wednesday, Dec. 13, for the guild’s annual Christmas luncheon and the final day of shopping is Saturday, Dec. 15, reopening on Jan. 2.

Learn about parenting children with disabilities

Rachel Anderson, Peninsula College health and wellness instructor, joins a panel of parents at the next Studium Generale presentation titled “Parenting Children With Disabilities,” set for 12:35 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, in the Little Theater on the main campus of Peninsula College, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles.

Parents on the panel joining Anderson include Britney Weitz, Pam Cunningham and Shawnda Hicks. Each of these women are moms to children who are living with various disabilities as well as children who are neuro-typical. The panel includes parents dedicated to educating and empowering their children through a variety of ways, and are willing to open up to the community about challenges and rewards of being parents for children who need additional supports. Time at the end will be allotted for the audience to ask questions.

Grange’s Christmas fair set for Saturday

The Sequim Prairie Grange’s 40th Handmade Christmas Fair takes place from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at 290 Macleay Road.

The event features more than 30 vendors selling handmade crafts and gifts items and homemade baked goods. Lunch includes hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad as well as homemade pies.

City accepting food bank donations

The City of Sequim is accepting donations of non-perishable foods now through Thursday, Dec. 20, for the Sequim Food Bank. Donations can be placed in the red barrel in the lobby of the Civic Center, located at 152 West Cedar Street. The donations will be delivered to the Sequim Food Bank in time for holiday meals. Business hours for the City of Sequim are 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday-Friday.

KSQM on move, sets ‘Remembrance Day’

KSQM radio is in the process of relocating to:The Sequim Village Shopping Center at 609 West Washington St., Suite 17.

The nonprofit radio station hosts an open house from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7 — Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day and KSQM’s 10th anniversary of broadcasting.

At noon, the American Legion Riders of Clallam County-Chapter 29 put on a “Flag Line” during the Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce’s ribbon-cutting ceremony. Civic leaders and the community are invited for cake and refreshments.

Have coffee with the mayor

The City of Sequim’s Coffee with the Mayor program continues in November. City attorney Kristina Nelson-Gross joins mayor Dennis Smith at 8:30 am. Thursday, Nov. 29, at Black Bear Diner, 1471 E. Washington St. The mayor will be at a published location each month to listen to anyone who wants to chat, ask questions, express a concern or make a comment about the city or the community.

Coat drive to help keep students warm

To help give the Sequim Middle School students a warm winter, Sequim Options School is hosting a winter clothing drive. You can help by donating new or lightly used jackets, hoodies, vests, gloves, hats, mittens, scarves and winter boots in children and adult sizes to the cause through Friday, Dec. 7. The school is also accepting cash donations to buy additional items not collected in the clothing drive.

Hour of Code comes to libraries

Celebrate Computer Science Education Week with coding events at the North Olympic Library System. Hour of Code events are scheduled for 3:30-5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., and 3:30-5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave. The Hour of Code is a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify code – to show that anybody can learn the basics. The program is recommended for ages 4 and older, but is appropriate for all ages and learning levels. Laptops will be provided.

The ‘our of Code, a nationwide initiative designed to introduce millions of students to one hour of computer science and computer programming, is sponsored locally by the Washington State Library, Microsoft and Friends of the Library groups.

Sequim Senior Nutrition Site menus are served at 4 p.m. at Suncrest Village Retirement Apartments, 251 S. Fifth Ave. Suggested donation is $5 (60 and over), $8 guest and a 24-hour advance reservation is needed. RSVP (at least 24 hours in advance) to 360-683-8491. Menus are subject to change.

Thursday, Nov. 29: Salad w/cottage cheese, chicken cordon bleu, peas/carrots, fruit cup, dessert
