Veteran support

The Disabled Veterans Chapter 5 office located at the Sequim Museum administration building, 544 N. Sequim Ave., is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Wednesday to serve all veterans with claims and information.

Veterans do not have to be a member of the DAV to receive assistance.

Yoga for cancer survivors

Every Wednesday during the month of October — Breast Cancer Awareness Month — Shelley Stratton of Bodhi Tree Yoga Studio, 271 Blakely Blvd. in Sequim, will offer free “Integrating Yoga Into Your Life” classes for cancer survivors and those in treatment. The classes are from 1-2 p.m.

The class incorporates gentle movements, postures and slow deep-breathing, ending with deep relaxation and a guided meditation.

Stratton has been teaching yoga for more than 15 years. Her various certifications includes Cancer Exercise Specialist.

Free microchipping

Welfare for Animals Guild (WAG) will offer a free microchipping clinic from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4. The clinic will take place at Koenig Subaru, 3501 E. Hwy. 101 in Port Angeles.

Cannabis as medicine

Registered pharmacist Claire Capriola will present a WOW! Working on Wellness radio forum on the topic “Using Cannabis as Medicine” from 2-3 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 8 on KSQM FM (91.5).

Capriola’s pharmacy career spans more than 40 years, with the last 10 years spent working as a local clinical pharmacist. She owns CLAIRESRX, LLC. and contracts with Cedar Greens Dispensary in Blyn. According to a press release, she believes that the subject of how cannabis can be used as medicine is a current and innovative topic for discussion.

Faith news

Julia McKenna Blessing Nuffer will present “To Be Or Not To Be” — a message about how everyone has the power of free will — when she speaks at Olympic Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 1033 N. Barr Road, at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 5.

Ordained 39 years ago, McKenna Blessing Nuffer, known as “Rev. Julia,” is an inter-denominational minister.

Discussion group

The Sequim Great Decisions monthly discussion group will meet at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, in the Adult Learning Center at Sequim Community Church, 950 N. Fifth Ave.

The discussion, led by Katherine Dunham, will focus on American foreign policy at a crossroads between the current international world order and the world powers promoting an authoritarian model.
