Online voter registration deadline is Oct. 9
Washington state residents looking to vote in the upcoming Nov. 7 general election can register online through Oct. 9 at weiapplets.sos.wa.gov/MyVote. Current registered voters can also use the MyVote site to make any address or name changes online through Oct. 9.
“Voters need to be aware that ballots are not forwarded by the USPS to new or temporary addresses,” said Linda Benson, President of the Clallam County League of Women Voters. “If you are in doubt, confirm the county has your correct information at weiapplets.sos.wa.gov/MyVote.”
Vet clinic on tap

Washington St. World-traveling professional storyteller Ingrid Nixon is the guest speaker. Her presentation is entitled, “Stories for the Naturally Curious.”
Free parks day set
Celebrate National Public Lands Day for free at Washington’s state parks on Saturday, Sept. 30. Day-use visitors will not need a Discover Pass to visit state parks. State Parks free days are in keeping with legislation that created the Discover Pass, a $30 annual or $10 one-day permit required on lands managed by Washington State Parks and the Washington departments of Natural Resources and Fish &Wildlife. Free days apply only to day-use access by vehicle, not overnight stays or rented facilities. Washington State Parks will have two more free days in 2017: Saturday, Nov. 11, in honor of Veterans Day and Friday, Nov. 24, a free day to celebrate autumn. DSHS mobile unit coming to Sequim
The Department of Heath and Human Services’ Mobile Community Services Office is coming to Sequim in early October. From 8 a.m.-noon on Friday, Oct. 6, at the Sequim Food Bank, 144 W. Alder St., participants can apply for cash assistance, basic food assistance and medical assistance.
They can also drop off paperwork, complete an eligibility review or mid-certification review, or make changes to an existing case.

Sequim Grange putting on breakfast

Newcomers’ meeting set for Oct. 3
The Newcomers’ Club will hold a meeting and lunch at Joshua’s Restaurant on Tuesday, Oct. 3. The program will feature Bruce Erlwein who will present about the Port Angeles Underground &Heritage Tour, including its upcoming Haunted Underground tour.
Socializing will begin the event at 11:30 a.m. in the restaurant, 113 Del Guzzi Drive, after which lunch will be held. The lunch costs $20 and the program-only fee is $5.

Community workshop on finding peace set
Joy Helmer, a recently retired psychiatric nurse has had a lifelong interest in conflict, hosts “Ending the suffering: Finding peace after painful conflict,” a free community workshop, from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7. After many years of study and practice, Helmer said, she learned how to successfully resolve a long-term conflict with her family and was able to transfer what she learned to her work in psychiatric hospitals. Pinewood derby set — for adults
The Boy Scouts of America will host its first annual Adult Pinewood Derby at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Port Angeles Senior Center, 328. E. Septics class on tap
Clallam County Environmental Health is offering a free informational septic system class from 6-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, at the Dungeness River Audubon Center at Railroad Bridge Park, 2151 W. Hendrickson Road.
Septic 101 is an introductory class designed for homeowners wishing to learn more about their septic systems. The course describes different types of septic systems, general system care and maintenance, and do’s and don’ts for a healthy system.

Port Angeles hosts child safety fair
A Children’s Safety Fair is slated for 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at Vern Burton Community Center, 308 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.
Designed for children of ages 0-6, the event offers hands-on games and activities, free home safety supplies, information about safe sleep for babies, dental care and health, and more information about supporting a child’s well-being.
Families can sign up for free car seats and pack and plays and all families can receive free giveaways at the Fair, such as electrical outlet covers and “Mr. Yuck” stickers, and emergency vehicles are scheduled to be on hand.
