Shred event
Kitsap Bank is partnering with the Sequim Food Bank to host a shred event on Saturday, Sept. 6, from 9 a.m. to noon at Kitsap Bank’s Sequim branch, 1320 W. Washington St.
Participants must make a monetary donation to have their documents shredded. There will be a maximum of 75 pounds per shred per vehicle. All funds raised will support the Sequim Food Bank.
Tea to Die For
Death Cafes “Tea to Die For,” sponsored by Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County, is set for 4-5:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 8, in the Community Room at KSQM 91.5 FM, 609 W. Washington St., No. 17.
The free and informal gatherings to discuss death are held every second Monday in Sequim. For more information, call 360-452-1511.
SPGC speaker meeting
The Sequim Prairie Garden Club will hold its monthly speaker meeting at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 8 at the clubhouse at Pioneer Memorial Park, 387 E. Washington St.
Carol Weiler will give a presentation on book binding. Attendees will learn how to bind their pressed garden flowers or an ancient garden book. Supplies will be available to purchase.
This event is free and open to the public. There is plenty of available parking.
The SPGC is accepting new members. The cost is $40 per year.
Help for veterans
The Disabled American Veterans Chapter 5 office located at the Sequim Museum administration building, 544 N. Sequim Ave., is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Wednesday to serve veterans with claims and information.
Veterans do not have to be a member of the DAV to receive assistance.

Working on Wellness
Edward Koszykowski will be the guest speaker for the “WOW! Working on Wellness” radio forum on Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 2 p.m. on KSQM 91.5 FM. He will speak about the mission of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and the neighborhoods the organization assists with basic needs.
Koszykowski will describe trends in outreach and the most pressing requests from the families the organization serves. He will also detail St. Vincent de Paul’s funding sources and other community organizations they collaborate with.
“WOW! Working on Wellness” is a health education program of Dungeness Valley Health & Wellness Clinic, Sequim’s free clinic.
Soul Care Speaker Series
“Making Space for You in the Midst of Caregiving,” the next installment in Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County’s Soul Care Speaker Series, will be offered online from noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 10.
Miller is a family caregiver and advocate, a certified caregiving consultant and senior advisor and founder of Happy Healthy Caregiver. During the 45-minute session, she will share her own caregiving journey and offer ways to prioritize self-care as well as introduce attendees to helpful tools and the community she has built to support caregivers.
The presentation will be followed by a 15-minute question-and-answer session, giving participants a chance to directly connect with Miller.
Miller hosts the Happy Healthy Caregiver podcast on the Whole Care Network, authored “Just for You: A Daily Self-Care Journal,” and facilitates support groups for family caregivers.

Empower Yourself workshops
Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County (VHOCC) is offering a free series of four weekly workshops on Mondays, beginning Sept. 8, to offer support and practical advice on everyday challenges for those who are living alone or anticipating living alone.
Registration is required and may be done by calling 360-452-1511 or emailing office@vhocc.org.
The topics are “Home and Automotive Maintenance” (Sept. 8); “Shopping and Cooking for One” (Sept. 15); “Household Finances” (Sept. 22); and “Taking Care of Yourself” (Sept. 29).
The workshops are scheduled every Monday from 2-4 p.m. in the VHOCC conference room, 829 E. 8th St. in Port Angeles. Participants may choose to attend one workshop, all of them, or any combination.
Pancake breakfast
Fall is in the air and it is time once again for the Sequim Prairie Grange Pancake Breakfast fundraiser.
On Sunday, Sept. 14, Grange members will prepare breakfast in their newly painted building. Pancakes will start flipping at 7:30 a.m. and continue until noon. The menu includes unlimited pancakes, one egg, one slice of ham, applesauce, coffee, and orange juice.
The cost is $9 for adults and $4 for children 10 and younger. Additional eggs and slices of ham can be purchased for 50 cents each.
There will also be a bake sale featuring homemade goods prepared by Grange members.
The Sequim Prairie Grange is located at 290 Macleay Road.
Register for Color Run
Registration has opened for the 7th Annual Sequim Sunshine Festival Sun Fun Color Run scheduled for Saturday, March 7. Register early online at runsignup.com and save before fees increase on Dec. 1.
Registration includes a Sun Fun Color Run T-shirt, race bib, finisher medal, sunglasses, a neck gaiter face covering, and a starting line color blast bag.
This family-friendly event begins and ends at Carrie Blake Park and has a 1K and a 5K option with color stations along the course.
Yarn Circle
Yarn Circle returns to the Sequim Library Temporary Location, 609 W. Washington St. The drop-in event takes place from 9:30-11 a.m. every Saturday in September and October.
Attendees can bring their knitting, crochet, embroidery, cross-stitch, or similar project. All experience levels are welcome. Coffee, tea and cocoa will be provided.

Christmas Chorus
The Sequim Community Christmas Chorus is preparing to launch its 38th season of presenting sacred Christmas music for the community and is calling all who love to sing.
The Chorus is open to singers of all levels of experience and participation, and there are no auditions or fees.
SCCC sings only sacred Christmas music, but has no religious affiliation and is presented in cooperation with the Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce. Rehearsals are weekly on Tuesdays beginning Sept. 9, with registration at 6 p.m. and rehearsal beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Sequim Seventh-day Adventist Church at 30 Sanford Lane.
Rehearsals will continue Tuesday nights from 6:45 p.m. to 9 p.m., with performances Dec. 5 (7 p.m.), Dec. 6 (2 p.m.) and Dec. 7 (2 p.m.).

Rev. Florence Caplow, a Unitarian Universalist minister and Zen teacher who recently moved to Port Angeles, will offer five accessible spiritual practices when she presents “Buddhist and UU Spiritual Practices for Scary Times” at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, at Olympic Universalist Fellowship, 1033 N. Barr Road.

Rev. Florence Caplow is a UU minister, Soto Zen priest and teacher, writer and activist. She has served UU congregations in Washington, Colorado, and Illinois, and has recently returned to the Olympic Peninsula.
