Assured Hospice to host first responders event on 9/11

All first responders are invited to an event recognizing their “dedication and service to the community,” along with a light breakfast, from 8-9 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 11, at the Clallam County Fire District 3 headquarters, 323. N. Fifth Ave. The event is sponsored by Assured Hospice of Clallam and Jefferson Counties and Home Instead Senior Care.

Kiwanis selling water filters for fundraiser

The Kiwanis Club of Sequim-Dungeness is selling the Emergency-H2O Water Filter Roll-up as a fundraiser and to help the community be better prepared for disaster.

Club members will be selling these filters from noon- 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, in front to the Mariner Café, 609 West Washington St. Filter are $50 each, with tax; pay with cash or a check made out to “Kiwanis.”

The products filter up to 10 gallons per hour and are good for 3,000 gallons when properly maintained.

Thrift shop sets sale

The Sequim Dungeness Hospital Guild Thrift Shop, 204 West Bell, is having a White Tag sale (50 percent off) for the entire month of September. The shop is open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, and the first and third Saturday of each month.

Funds raised at the shop support medically-related efforts by the Sequim Fire Department, scholarships for Peninsula College Nursing Program students, the Sequim-Dungeness Valley Health and Wellness Clinic and others.

Flea market on tap

Sequim Prairie Grange has announced their Fall Flea Market is set for 8 a.m.- 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at 290 Macleay Road.

The market will be outdoors only; because of COVID-19 restrictions and concerns, masks and social distancing will be required.

Vendors who would like to participate are asked to call Philomena Lund at 360-477-4742. Booth spaces are $20 each. Vendors must bring their own tables.

Scouts, State Parks team up for free day

The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission is offering two free days this month: Sunday, Sept. 13, and Saturday, Sept. 26, in recognition of Girl Scouts Love State Parks Day and National Public Lands Day, respectively.

On these two days, day-use visitors will not need a Discover Pass to visit state parks by vehicle.

For the second time, state and national park officials are teaming up with Girl Scouts USA for a free parks day, set for Sunday, Sept. 13. The event is preceded by a “Virtual Camping and Outdoor Skills Workshop” slated for 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, via Zoom (available only to Girl Scouts who register) Participants and their families brush up their outdoor skills and also hear about career opportunities at Washington State Parks from a park ranger. The remaining 2020 State Parks free days are: Saturday, Oct. 10, World Mental Health Day; Wednesday, Nov. 11, Veterans Day, and Friday, Nov. 27, Autumn Day.

Bridge closure set

Overnight repair to Hood Canal Bridge along State Route 104 will close the bridge to vehicles for several hours next week.

From 10 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17 to 2 a.m. Friday, Sept. 18, Washington State Department of Transportation bridge maintenance crews will close the bridge to vehicle traffic to make repairs.

Crews could extend the length of the closure to traffic, depending on work progress. The work is subject to weather and tidal activity.
