New hours for Social Security

The Port Angeles Social Security office, located at 138 W. First St., Room 113, has updated its hours for in-person services. Effective immediately, in-person services are offered from 9 a.m. to noon, Monday-Friday.

According to a press release about the new hours, the majority of Social Security services do not require visiting an office. They can be accessed online at ssa.gov or over the phone at 1-800-772-1213. People who are deaf or hard of hearing may call Social Security’s TTY number: 1-800-325-0778.

End of Life workshop

The North Olympic Library System (NOLS) is hosting a free two-hour workshop with End of Life Washington at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 11, in the KSQM Community Room, 609 W. Washington St., Ste. 17. The End of Life Ready Workshop will provide an overview of advance care planning and end-of-life options.

End of Life Washington representatives will discuss how to prepare and complete an advance directive, how to choose a health care agent, and the legal choices for dying on your terms in Washington state.

Great Decisions to meet

The Great Decisions group’s February discussion will focus on U.S. engagement in Africa during the Trump administration. The discussion will be lead by David Morris, former Peace Corps volunteer in Malawi and former Peace Corps country director in Zambia.

The discussion will take place on Friday, Feb. 6 at 10 a.m. in the Adult Learning Center at Sequim Community Church, 950 North Fifth Ave. in Sequim. New people are welcome.

Death Cafes

Death Cafés “Tea to Die For,” sponsored by Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County, are set for Monday, Feb. 9, in Sequim and Wednesday, Feb. 25, in Port Angeles, both from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. A third monthly gathering has been added on Thursday, Feb. 18, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The Monday discussion will be held in KSQM’s Community Room, 609 W. Washington St., No. 17, in Sequim. The Wednesday talk will be held in VHOCC’s conference room, 829 E. Eighth St., and the Thursday gathering will be at Studio Bob, 118 ½ E. Front St. in Port Angeles.

The groups are free and open to all. No prior registration is required.

Death Cafe is an international movement of hosting informal gatherings for the simple purpose of discussing death. Conversations are held every second Monday in Sequim and every fourth Wednesday and Thursday in Port Angeles.

Free legal clinic

On Saturday, Feb. 21 Clallam-Jefferson County Pro Bono Lawyers will present a virtual legal aid clinic, a free program offering legal advice for members of the public. One-time consultations will be offered via telephone or Zoom.

Legal aid clinics are geared to help those who are financially unable to otherwise access a lawyer. Attorney volunteers will be available from 10 a.m. to noon to answer legal questions pertaining to civil matters, direct people to local services that might be able to assist them, and to explain the legal process to them.

Clients must pre-register for this event by calling 360-504-2422 or by emailing probonomary2@gmail.com. People are asked to register no later than Friday, Feb. 13.

Grange hosts Valentine’s dinner

The Sequim Prairie Grange, 290 Macleay Road, will host a spaghetti dinner on Friday, Feb.13 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Dinner includes spaghetti, salad, bread, a beverage, and dessert.

Cost is $12 for adults, $6 for children under 10.

A bake sale with homemade treats will also be available.
