Clallam Transit adds after-Thanksgiving Day service

The board of the Clallam Transit System voted to restore regular weekday service for the day after Thanksgiving (this year, Nov. 21) following a public hearing in August.

In 2010, Clallam Transit eliminated service on four holidays — Veterans Day, the day following Thanksgiving, Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Presidents Day for budgetary savings.

In developing a recent proposal, Transit’s Service Review Committee recommended reestablishing service following Thanksgiving because that day of the four had the highest level of ridership.

The regular service day will include fixed-route, dial-a-ride and paratransit service.

Prevent rabies — vaccinate!

In light of the recent discovery of a bat infected with rabies in Olympic National Park, the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office is reminding pet owners of rabies vaccination requirements in Washington.

Sheriff’s Office officials said there isn’t any greater danger of rabid animals in Clallam County now than there has been in the past.

As of Jan. 1, 2012, all dogs, cats and ferrets in Washington are required to have up-to-date rabies vaccines, per state law.

Each year, about 400-600 animals in Washington are tested for rabies, mostly bats. In 2011, 201 bats were tested and 11 were infected with rabies.
