PFOA sets annual meeting, Gadget abs on tap, festival announces parade lineup, more.

Commission to meet

The Clallam County Planning Commission will meet at 6:30 p.m., today, May 7, at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles, and hold a public hearing regarding Second Half 2013 Current Use Assessment Applications.

After hours public meeting entrance is from Fourth Street.

PFOA annual meeting set

The annual meeting of Peninsula Friends of Animals will be held today, May 7, at the Lazy Acres Clubhouse, 111 Dryke Road, in Sequim. There will be a snack-luck at 5 p.m.; the business meeting will start at 6 p.m.

All PFOA members are encouraged to attend.

Gadget Labs on tap

The Sequim Library is now offering 15-minute one-on-one hands-on Gadget Lab appointments with staff experts. Appointments are available on Wednesday May 7, 21 and 28 between 1:30-3 p.m.

Bring your device and you will be personally guided through the process of downloading e-books or audio books from the library’s subscription download services. Gadget Lab sessions are available by appointment only at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.

Book sale set

Friends of the Sequim Library will hold its monthly book sale from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at 630 N. Sequim Ave.

Jeffco plant sale

The Jefferson County Master Gardener Plant Sale is from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at HJ Carroll Park, 9884 Highway 19 and Rhody Drive in Chimacum. The sale includes large numbers of native species among trees, shrubs, berries, veggies and ornamentals.

Mushroom adventurer speaks

The Olympic Peninsula Mycological Society will hold its next meeting from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, at the Gardiner Community Center, 980 Old Gardiner Road, Gardiner. Lawrence Millman, mycologist and adventure writer, will be the speaker.

He is a prolific author and frequent traveler to the Arctic, whose latest book is “Giant Polypores and Stoned Reindeer: Rambles in Kingdom Fungi.”

Shipley Center Gala tickets

The Shipley Center’s third annual Spring Into the Future Gala Dinner and Auction, presented by Sequim Health and Rehabilitation, will be at 5 p.m. Friday, May 30, at Club Seven at 7 Cedars Casino.

Tickets are $50 each or a business can sponsor a table of eight for $600. Tickets are available at the center at 921 E. Hammond in Sequim or by calling 683-6806.

The gala will benefit the capital campaign to build a new $10 million center.

Meet the mayor

Meet City of Sequim mayor Candace Pratt at “Coffee with the Mayor” in May. Sequim residents can meet informally with the mayor on Thursday, May 15, at 8:30 a.m. at Rainshadow Coffee Roasting Company, 157 W. Cedar St.

The mayor will be at a different published location each month to listen to anyone who wants to chat, ask questions, express a concern or make a comment about the city or the community. Contact Pratt at 582-0114 or cpratt@sequimwa.gov with questions.

Rennebohm speaks

Craig Rennebohm, D.Min., noted co-author of “Souls in the Hands of a Tender God” and founder of Seattle’s Mental Health Chaplaincy, is the featured speaker for the National Alliance on Mental Illness of Clallam County on May 15.

He will address “Supportive Recovery,” how to share the journey from illness to recovery for loved ones in crisis, at Sequim Community Church, 950 N. Fifth Ave. beginning at 7 p.m.

Yoga for Mom

Shelley Stratton and Zorina Wolf present a free Mother’s Day Offering — Yoga and Rhythm, from 9-10:30 a.m. Sunday, May 12, at Village Heartbeat Studio, 353 Chickadee Lane, Sequim.

It includes flowing yoga, percussive soundscapes and guided meditation. Call Stratton at 460-1864 with questions.

Sequim Senior Nutrition Site menus are served at 4:30 p.m. at Suncrest Village Retirement Apartments, 251 S. Fifth Ave.

Suggested donation is $5 (60 and over), $8 guest, and a 24-hour advance reservation is needed.
