Sequim Food Ban extends hours; transfer station announces closures; hoops camp slated, more

Extended hours for Sequim Food Bank

To provide improved service to visitors, the Sequim Food Bank will feature new distribution hours in 2015: Mondays 1-4 p.m.; Fridays 9-noon; and Saturdays 9 a.m.-noon.

The new Monday afternoon hours provide an alternative for people who work in the mornings as well as affording food bank staff and volunteers time to procure a sufficient supply of fresh produce, meat and baked goods from QFC, Walmart, Safeway and Costco which generously supply so much of the fresh food distributed at the Sequim Food Bank.

Donations of non-expired, unopened canned and dry goods may be dropped off at the Food Bank Monday-Friday before 3 p.m. Financial contributions should be mailed to Sequim Food Bank, PO Box 1453, Sequim, WA 98382.

Knights make key donation

The Sequim Knights of Columbus out of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church recently donated nearly $1,800 to local charities specializing in people with special needs.

Following their annual “Tootsie Roll” fundraiser at the Sequim Walmart, the club of 80-plus men this year chose to donate to Clallam Mosaic, the Clallam County Special Olympics and the Washington State Special Olympics. On Dec. 23, Fritz Field, fundraiser chairman, hands a check to Russ Bonham with Special Olympics while Bill Wheeler presents another check to Priya Jayadev, executive director of Mosaic, at Walmart with their leadership team on hand for the presentation.

The Knights of Columbus, a fraternal organization of Catholic men, conducts a variety of fundraisers annually and Sequim’s council has donated more than $20,000 to local charities and provided nearly 7,900 service hours. Their next “Tootsie Roll” fundraiser is Oct. 3-4, 2015, at Walmart.
