Talk on Olympic Discovery Trail expansion scheduled
The Peninsula Trails Coalition is holding its annual membership meeting, open to the public, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. today, May 13, at the Audubon Center at Railroad Bridge Park in Sequim. Strait ERN to meet
The next quarterly meeting of the Strait of Juan de Fuca Ecosystem Recovery Network is from 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Friday, May 15, at the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe’s Red Cedar Hall in the Community Center in Blyn. Park offers storytime
Olympic National Park and the North Olympic Library System are teaming up to offer an all-ages “Endangered Species Day Story Time” at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 15, at the park’s visitor center, 3002 Mount Angeles Road, Port Angeles. Hear a story, sing songs, make crafts and enjoy a puppet show with the child in your life.
Thrift shop open Saturday
The Sequim Dungeness Hospital Guilds thrift shop, 206 W. Bell St., will be open from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, May 16. Spring fashions for everyone are being featured along with fine jewelry, fashion accessories, designer handbags, furniture, kitchen appliances and glassware and puzzles and books. All white-tagged items will be marked at half-price. There are a few tickets also left for the guild’s fashion show/luncheon on May 28. Call 683-7044 for more information.
Sequim’s Frykholm to portray Washington
Clallam County Genealogical Society presents a program by Vern Frykholm as George Washington from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, May 16, in the Raymond Carver Room, Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Airplane rides for youths set
EAA Chapter 430 hosts its first Young Eagle Rally of the year on Saturday, May 16, at the Sequim Valley Airport, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Young aviation enthusiasts ages 8-17 should bring their parent(s) along for permission’s sake for free airplane rides. In case of inclement weather, the rally will be postponed to the following Saturday.
Learn birds by their calls
“Enjoying Spring Sounds,” the seventh session of Backyard Birding, is from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, May 16, at the Dungeness River Audubon Center, 2151 W. Hendrickson Road, Sequim. Olympic Peninsula Audubon leaders Ken Wiersema and Dow Lambert will present a slide, video and sound program about recognizing your neighborhood birds by their songs and their calls. There is a $5 fee for those over 18 years.
Church honors nonagenarians
The 23 members of the Trinity United Methodist Church congregation who are at least 90 years old will be honored at a light lunch May 17 at the church, 100 S. Blake Ave. Music from the big-band era will accompany the lunch, which will be immediately after the 10 a.m. worship service and is open to all who attend the service. A slideshow will feature photos and historical events in the life of the church.
Zumbathon fundraiser for Serenity House is Sunday
A Zumbathon fundraiser will be in the Tempest ballroom, 535 E. First, Port Angeles, from 1-3 p.m., Sunday, May 17, to help support Serenity House’s work to prevent and end homelessness in Clallam County. The entry fee is a tax-deductible $10 donation per dancer.

Shelter Providers meet May 20
The Shelter Providers Network of Clallam County will meet from 9-10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 20, in Room 160 of the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles. The group will finalize plans for the Annual Forum on Ending Homelessness, to be held on June 17 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Port Angeles. There will be a Community Drought Forum from 6-8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 21, at Guy Cole Convention Center in Carrie Blake Park, 202 N. Blake Ave., Sequim. The public is encouraged to attend.
Retired public employees group meets May 21
Retired Public Employees Council Chapter 23 will meet at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, May 21, in the North Olympic Skills Center, 905 W. Ninth St. in Port Angeles, to hear a talk by Maria Britton-Sipe, RPEC executive director, on “The Key to Our Future as Retirees.”
She will describe what has been happening in the state Legislature to deal with a budget shortfall and the impacts on retirees.
