SARC moves meeting location; kickoff for school bond set; SARC campaign kicks off; OMC considers positions, more

SARC moves meeting location

The Sequim Aquatic Recreation Center’s board of directors meet at 5 p.m. on the second Wednesday of the month at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave. The board voted Dec. 22 to shift the meeting location; previously the board met at Fifth Avenue Retirement Center.


Kickoff for school bond set

Citizens for Sequim Schools hosts a campaign kickoff for a February school bond vote at 6 p.m. tonight, Jan. 7, at the Sequim Boys & Girls Club, 400 W. Fir St.

Sign up sheets to help with campaign will be available, as will campaign buttons and yard signs. See a presentation by Sequim School District officials about the bond proposal, set to come to voters in February.

Complimentary snacks and drinks, and youths are welcomed.

SARC campaign kicks off

There will be a campaign kick-off for the upcoming SARC levy campaign at 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, at Fifth Avenue Retirement Center, 500 W. Hendrickson Road.

Attendees are encouraged to stop by to pick up campaign buttons and car signs to show the community you support SARC.

OMC considers positions

The Olympic Medical Center Board of Commissioners will meet in its regularly scheduled meeting at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, in Linkletter Hall in the basement conference area of Olympic Memorial Hospital.

Public input also will be accepted, for and against, the following, and after receiving public input, the board may consider taking position in either support or opposition of:

• Sequim School District’s construction bond

• Port Angeles School District’s school construction bond

• Sequim Aquatic Recreation Center’s operating levy

The OMC board agenda also includes election of officers for 2015.

Monthly book sale on tap

The Friends of Sequim Library will host its monthly book sale from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.


FIre district board talks

Clallam County Fire District 3 will have a board of commissioners meeting at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, at Station 34, 323 N. Fifth Ave., Sequim.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss attending the state auditor’s 2012 and 2013 State Audit Entrance Conference.


Coffee House to meet

Sequim Deaf Coffee House will meet from noon-3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, at 960 N. Fifth Ave. and Cape Hope Way, Sequim, for a farewell party for Bob and Callie Stanek who will be moving to Puyallup. Bring snacks to share.

Cake and coffee provided. Donations appreciated.


Miata set monthly meeting

The Miata Club of the Olympic Peninsula will hold its monthly no-host lunch meeting from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, at the Black Bear Diner, 1471 E. Washington St., Sequim.

All Miata owners are welcome and the club is looking for new members.

MacTraders at SMUG meeting

The Strait Mac Users Group will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., Port Angeles. Glenn and Kecia Gilliam, owners of MacTraders of Sequim, will be sharing many ways that Apple products can simplify your life. Explorers put on a walk

All walkers are invited to  join the Olympic Peninsula Explorers on Saturday, Jan. 10, at Wild Birds Unlimited, 275953 U.S. Highway 101, Gardiner for a 5/10k (3.1/6.2 mile) walk. This walk is free, unless you wish to get credit from the AVA.

The walk will take you by Troll Haven, where you will see trolls that are carved into buildings and fence posts. Although the walk is free, all walkers must sign up from 8:45-9 a.m. The walk will start promptly at 9 a.m.

Conservation group hosts tour

The Washington Conservation Commission meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, at the Olympic Lodge, 140 Del Guzzi Drive in Port Angeles.

A tour coordinated by the Clallam Conservation District will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, followed by an interaction dinner at 6 p.m. at The Cedars at Dungeness, 1965 Woodcock Road, Sequim.

The cost for dinner is $28 and the public is invited to attend the meeting, tour and dinner. RSVP to Lori Gonzalez at 360-407-6200 by Jan. 9.


CCGS to talk Internet security

Juan Ruiz, owner of Ask Juan Networks LLC, will speak on Internet security when the Clallam County Genealogical Society meets at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, at Trinity Methodist Church, 100 Blake Ave., Sequim.

Learning to use the computer safely is a timely subject and Ruiz has more than 25 years of technical experience in the field. Bring questions and guests with questions. For more information, call the Research Center at 417-5000.

Hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday-Friday.


Senior Nutrition menu set

Sequim Senior Nutrition Site menus are served at 4:30 p.m. at Suncrest Village Retirement Apartments, 251 S. Fifth Ave.

Suggested donation is $5 (60 and over), $8 guest, and a 24-hour advance reservation is needed. RSVP to 683-8491. Menus are subject to change.
