NAMI, PBH to host walk for suicide prevention
The Clallam County Chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness and Peninsula Behavioral Health invite all community members to walk with them on Thursday, Sept. 10, which is World Suicide Prevention Day.
Folks will gather at the City Pier at 4 p.m. and then proceed up Lincoln Street toward PBH’s main office at 118 E. Eighth St. where six speakers are slated to talk at the Compassion Rally.

Shellfish harvesting banned
Sequim Bay is now closed to all species of shellfish due to high levels of paralytic shellfish poisoning in a manila clam shellfish sample from the beach in front of the Jamestown S’Klallam tribal office.
The sample came in at 356 and the closing criteria is 80.

Charity car show set
Peninsula Dream Machines Car Club will hold its Annual Charity Car Show from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, at the Port Angeles Walmart. All proceeds from the car show will go to the Wounded Warrior local events.
The club welcomes classic cars, motorcycles, hot rods and trucks. There is a $20 entry fee. Free PDM tote bags with goodies go to the first 100 participants. The club awards 30 trophies to participants for various categories.
The event includes a barbecue, raffle prizes, music and more. Vendors also are welcome for a $20 space fee. For information, call 461-9008.
EAA to meet
The next EAA Chapter 430 meeting will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, in Hangar 15 at the Sequim Valley Airport. Paul Kuntz will discuss flutter aerodynamics.
Meeting set regarding neighborhood rehabilitation
Habitat for Humanity of Clallam County will be hosting an informational meeting in Sequim for Neighborhood Revitalization at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, at Rainshadow Coffee Roasting Co., 157 W. Cedar St. Neighborhood Revitalization is a home repair, rehabilitation and weatherization program where homeowners apply for a loan from Habitat and help complete the work themselves.
Storytimes for preschoolers
Kindergarten Express, a weekly program designed for 4-to-5-year olds, will resume at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15. This storytime series features picture books, fingerplays, music, science projects and crafts designed to help prepare preschoolers for kindergarten. Kindergarten Express storytimes are free and will run Sept. 15-Nov. 24 and from Jan. 5-May 10.

Salmon River reopens to recreational fishing
Due to recent rains, the Salmon River in the Queets Valley of Olympic National Park was re-opened to recreational fishing Sept. 2.
The change in regulation allows for recreational fishing and retention of hatchery salmon. Wild chinook and wild coho salmon must be released. The Salmon River previously was closed to fishing due to low-water conditions.
All other emergency river closures remain in effect, including: Elwha, Hoh, South Fork Hoh, Bogachiel, South Fork Calawah, Sol Duc, North Fork Sol Duc, Dickey, Queets, Salmon, Quinault, and North Fork Skokomish Rivers (including East and North Forks) and their tributaries and Cedar, Goodman, Kalaloch, and Mosquito creeks in the Pacific Coastal area.
DEAFOP picnic planned
The DEAFOP end-of-summer picnic will be from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at Robert and Karen Pederson’s home, 1124 W. Eighth St., Port Angeles.
Bring a potluck item to share; hamburgers, hot dogs and pop provided. Everyone in the deaf community, family and friends are invited.

The Second Annual Men’s Patriot Day Outdoor 4×4 Basketball Tournament for ages 16 and older will be at 4 p.m., Friday, Sept. 11, and 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at Cornerstone Baptist Temple, 44 Joslin Road, Sequim.

Bunco benefit set
Sequim Guild will host a bunco benefit at noon, Friday, Sept. 18, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth St., Sequim. The event includes a luncheon and afternoon of playing bunco with many silent auction items and prizes.
All proceeds go to Seattle Children’s Hospital’s uncompensated care fund. Cost is $15; doors open at 11:30 a.m.
