New City of Sequim councilors to be sworn in

The Sequim City Council will hold a special meeting at 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 4, at the Sequim Civic Center, 152 West Cedar St.

The meeting agenda will include the swearing-in ceremony for newly elected council members Pamela Leonard-Ray and John Miller, candidate interviews to fulfill the vacant city council position and the council election of mayor and deputy mayor.

Advisory members sought for board

The Board of Clallam County Commissioners announces openings on the Trust Lands Advisory Committee. Endorsements for representation of specific categories are sought from the North Olympic Group of the Sierra Club; the Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society; the City of Port Angeles; and Olympic Medical Center. Fundraiser festival set

EcoVillage Dungeness CoHousing will hold a fundraiser/potluck Friday, Jan. 1, with an aquaponic farm tour at 12:30 p.m., car race from 2:30-4:30 p.m., remote car race from 3-4 p.m., potluck at 5 p.m., bunco from 7-8 p.m. and dancing/drumming from 8-10 p.m. The event also celebrates the 60th birthday of Rose Marschall. Instead of gifts, make a donation to the Dungeness EcoVillage CoHousing Community. The fundraiser will be at the Olympic Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Hall, 73 Howe Road, Port Angeles. Easement purchased for Carlsborg sewer system

Moving ahead the project to install a public sewer system throughout the Carlsborg Urban Growth Area, the Board of County Commissioners approved an easement purchase from the Sequim Valley Center Lot Owners Association on Dec. 22. The perpetual sewer easement was exchanged for one no-cost sewer hookup.

County officials expect to spend $10.4 million on the construction of the Carlsborg sewer system in 2016. Work to install the infrastructure needed to convey sewage from Carlsborg to the Sequim Wastewater Reclamation Facility for treatment is estimated to begin in the spring and operational by 2017.

The Strait Mac Users Group will host a roundtable event with four local Apple experts at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, in the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St. These experts will answer any Apple questions you may have and offer some tips, tricks and good practices on the full range of Apple products. Port Angeles library offers tech tutoring

The Port Angeles Main Library is offering 30-minute appointments with expert library staff for hands-on, one-on-one technology tutoring with eReaders, smart phones or tablet devices. These free Tech-Know-Logy sessions will be by appointment only between 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 6, and Wednesday, Jan. 20, at the Port Angeles Main Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., Port Angeles.


UFOers to meet

Olympic UFO Meet Up will be having an “Out of This World” New Year’s celebration from 2-6 p.m. Jan. 2 instead of the usual first Saturday of the month meeting at the Quaker Meeting House. Sequim Senior Nutrition Site menus are served at 4:30 p.m. at the Shipley Center, 921 E. Hammond St. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Suggested donation is $5 (60 and over), $8 guest and a 24-hour advance reservation is needed.
