County officials ask for help with storm damage cost estimates

County residents can see if damages caused by recent winter storms can qualify the region for federal funding.

Clallam County is seeking preliminary damage estimates for private property sustained in recent weather events in order to determine whether the county qualifies for federal assistance. If the county reaches a certain threshold, officials said, the county may receive federal reimbursement for damages.

If your property was damaged in the recent storm event, from Nov. 2 to present, click on the “Report damage to your home here” link on the Clallam County website, clallam.net. Those without access to the internet can call 360-565-2681 between 9 a.m.-4 p.m. to have someone help through the process. Those participating will need to know their insurance coverage (e.g. renter’s, home owner’s, flood, landslide), amount of one’s deductible, and an estimated dollar amount of the damages (include material and labor costs in estimate).

After the county collects the information, the data is submitted to the State Emergency-Management Department to determine if the county meets its threshold for individual assistance.

If individual assistance becomes available, the Clallam County Emergency Management will contact participants with information on filing.
