Dart and Margie Whitmore of Sequim have donated their 2003 Komfort M-27TSR Travel Trailer to Serenity House of Clallam County to support housing for local veterans.

While volunteering at the free Saturday lunch hosted by St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Sequim, Margie Whitmore became aware that among the people who came to eat were veterans and the widow of a veteran who were homeless.

The Whitmores decided that since health concerns had curtailed their own travels they would donate their RV to Serenity as possible housing for veterans.

Serenity found that use was not feasible. However, sale of the impeccably maintained 30-foot RV — with slide-out full kitchen and a bath with shower and toilet — will extend the funding and services available to the Supportive Services for Veteran Families program, which aids about 90 Clallam County households each year.

Ten or more veteran households will be aided by the proceeds of the sale, said Dan Bateham, veterans case manager for Serenity House.

The Whitmores’ generous donation is on display at the Serenity Square Thrift Store at 551 W. Washington St. in Sequim.

“Store profits usually go to support Serenity House’s overall mission, but this is an exceptional donation so we will be able to target the whole amount we receive specifically to help veterans,” said store manager Belicia Muñoz.
