Crash with garbage truck sends PT resident to Harborview; Sequim man uninjured

A collision between a garbage truck and an SUV sent a 73-year Port Townsend resident to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle via LifeFlight on Tuesday afternoon.

According to a Washington State Patrol report, Mary Jones of Port Townsend was traveling southbound on South Discovery Road, just south of Port Townsend, at about 1:35 p.m. on May 7 when her Subaru Forester went through a stop sign, striking a garbage truck driven by John Seelye of Sequim; his vehicle was moving westbound on State Route 20.

Both vehicles came to rest in the eastbound shoulder.

Jones was transported to Harborview; Seelye was uninjured.

A Harborview spokesperson Susan Gregg said Jones was in serious condition on Wednesday.

The cause was listed as a failure to yield to oncoming traffic. Potential charges are pending an investigation, the State Patrol said.

The Forester was destroyed and the garbage truck sustained reportable damage.
