Deceased man found on trail east of Sequim

Police awaiting autopsy, say no immediate danger from incident

Sequim Police Department confirmed Wednesday a 39-year-old Port Angeles man was found deceased near the Olympic Discovery Trail on Saturday, Aug. 28.

Det. Sgt. Darrell Nelson said that passersby saw the unidentified man and called 9-1-1 around 6 a.m. He was found on the east side of Whitefeather Way by the head of the trail, Nelson said.

The man was identified as being from Port Angeles area, he said, but they are withholding his name until they can contact his family.

Police are awaiting an autopsy from Clallam County coroner Mark Nichols for the cause of death, but Nelson said police investigators suspect a possible drug overdose.

The incident poses no danger to the community, he added.

The investigation is ongoing, police officials reported.
