The Clallam County Democratic Party formally has endorsed Linda Barnfather of Sequim for the Clallam County commissioner seat in District 1 being vacated by Steve Tharinger of Sequim.
Barnfather is legislative assistant to Democratic state Rep. Kevin Van De Wege.
“I am truly appreciative that I have won the endorsement of the Clallam County Democratic Party,” said Barnfather. “I value their support and will continue to work hard to win this race and move forward with strong Democratic values as my foundation.”
Tharinger, a Sequim Democrat who also serves as a state representative from the 24th District, will not be running for re-election after three terms as county commissioner. Instead he will be concentrating on his work in Olympia representing Clallam County, Jefferson County and part of Grays Harbor County, Democrats said last week.
“In addition to her experience, good judgment and deep ties to this community, what separates Linda from her opponent is her extensive experience and success in the private sector as a small business owner and property manager,” Tharinger said.
“She will make a great county commissioner precisely because she knows both how government runs and how the real world works. She’s got the comprehensive experience necessary to be a real community leader.”
