Deputies arrest Diamond Point robbery suspect

A Diamond Point man was arrested on Friday, Aug. 29 for his alleged connection to a robbery and burglary in Carlsborg in late July.

Clallam County Sheriff’s Office reports that Stephen C. Massey, 61, was booked into Clallam County jail on Aug. 29 after the Olympic Peninsula Crisis Response Team executed a search warrant at about 6 a.m. that morning. He was arrested without incident, according to deputies, and faces charges of robbery in the first degree and burglary in the first degree. His bail was set at $101,000, according to the county’s jail roster. Massey could face up to life in prison and/or a $50,000 fine for both charges.

Deputies stated that at 8:23 p.m. on July 23, they were dispatched to the Chevron Gas Station at 23 Hooker Road in Carlsborg on a report of a man chasing another man into the store with a firearm.

According to court documents, security footage showed Massey allegedly approaching a vehicle at the gas station with a bulky item on his right hip, believed to be a gun. A man climbed out through the truck’s window and ran into the station with Massey behind him, deputies report.

Massey demanded money in the store from the man, but was told to leave, according to court documents.

He left the business and allegedly took two cell phones from the man’s truck.

Deputies report that via interviews conducted, Massey demanded the man pay him money he was owed after giving it to him to buy methamphetamine.

Deputies stated that because the alleged victim had been living out of his truck, the theft was classified as a burglary after Massey allegedly took the cell phones.

An arrest warrant was issued for Massey on Aug. 22 by judge Elizabeth Stanley.

The Olympic Peninsula Crisis Response Team consisted of members from multiple agencies including the Port Angeles Police Department, Clallam County Sheriff’s Office, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Clallam County Fire District 3, and two armored vehicles.
