Members of the Clallam County Sheriff’s Department Search & Rescue Team helped rescue a dog who fell about 300 feet down a bluff in Port Angeles on May 17.

Early Sunday evening, Port Angeles resident Tess Gallagher let Husie, a small, 11-year-old dog with partial blindness, outside in the back yard. The yard borders the edge of the bluffs above the Olympic Discovery Trail east of Port Angeles in the 2700 block of the East Bay Street neighborhood.

The dog apparently fell through brush at the edge of the bluff, and could be heard barking occasionally in the thick brush and trees below the bluff near the Discovery Trail.

Clallam County Sheriff’s Department Search & Rescue Team volunteer member Kelly Thomas was lowered about 300 feet nearly straight down on a rope and recovered Husie, who was shaken, dirty but apparently unhurt.
