On Monday, March 22, an eighth person was charged in connection with a series of residential burglaries in July, August and September 2009 that involved the theft of more than $110,000 in cash and coins from a Sequim home.

Skyler Nolan Mattox, 19, Sequim, faces four counts each of residential burglary and first-degree theft and one count of first-degree trafficking in stolen property.

Mattox, who is in the Olympic Clearwater Corrections Center near Forks, allegedly broke into his grandfather’s house five times in July and August, 2009, stealing an estimated $135,000, and told a police informant he gave the money to Sequim resident Brian Constant to buy OxyContin to sell.

Later Mattox was jailed in Kitsap County on drug charges. That led to seven people, including Constant and Mattox’s girlfriend Ciara Jo Neil, committing more burglaries of the same home to raise his bail money.

Four of the original seven burglary suspects have entered substance abuse treatment through the state’s drug offender sentencing alternative. A fifth had his trial delayed while he undergoes long-term substance abuse treatment. Constant was sentenced to six months in jail. The seventh never was formally charged.
