Ellison gets Rotary honor

Jack Ellison, a senior at Sequim High School, recently was recognized as the Sequim Sunrise Rotary’s April Student of the Month. Here, Ellison is pictured with teacher Bill Seabolt and Rotarian Nell Clausen.

Ellison has lived in Sequim most of his life and has a brother Nicolas, a sophomore. His parents are Colleen McAleer and Chuck Ellison.

Seabolt, who advises Ellison in SkillsUSA and career-technical education classes at Sequim High, nominated Ellison for the honor. At the Rotary club meeting, Seabolt shared how proud he was of Ellison for competing — and taking first place — at the SkillsUSA competition in the electrical wiring division, a first for a Sequim student. Ellison will be attending the national convention to compete as well.

The classes Ellison enjoys most are calculus, physics, engineering and technology. He was captain of the football team and president of the E.T. club. His hobbies include stereo/audio systems, working on cars, aquariums and hiking. Ellison said he enjoys giving back to the community by working with the Dungeness River Audubon Center youth education program and Boo hunger food drive.

His plans for the future include attending a four-year university to study electrical engineering, specifically power systems engineering.
