Ex-Wolves of the Week: Jackson Oliver and Waverly Shreffler

A freshman at Western Washington University, Shreffler placed 48th overall and eighth on her team as the Vikings took fourth place at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference championships in Bellingham on Oct. 22.

Shreffler finished the 6,000-meter course in 23:53.

Western Washington next competes at the NCAA Division II West Regional, hosted on Nov. 5 in Billings, Mont. The top six women’s teams advance to the NCAA Div. II national meet.

A 2016 Sequim High graduate, Shreffler competed in two state 2A cross country meets, finishing 33rd as a junior in 2014 and sixth as a senior in 2015.

She also was a track and field standout at Sequim High, winning the state 2A 800-meter race and helping both 4×200 and 4×400 relay teams qualify for the state meet.

She placed fourth at the state 2A meet 800-meter race as a junior.

Jackson Oliver, cross country, BYU Hawaii

A freshman at Brigham Young University-Hawaii on O’ahu, Oliver helped his squad take seventh place at the PacWest Championships in Kea’au, Hawaii, on Oct. 22.

Oliver placed 37th overall and third on the Seasiders squad with a 30:14 finish. The Seasiders next compete in the NCAA West Regionals on Nov. 5 in Billings, Mont.

Oliver is majoring in biomedical sciences.

A 2016 Sequim High graduate, Oliver competed at the state 2A meet in all four years at Sequim High, finishing as high as 14th his senior season. He and the Wolves’ placed a school-best second as a team in 2014 and third in 2015.

Oliver was a three-sport standout at SHS, taking second place at the state 2A track and field meet in the high jump as a junior, sixth as a senior and ninth as a sophomore. He also placed eighth in the 800-meter race as a senior. In basketball, he tied for the team lead in scoring (11.8 points per game), steals and blocks as a senior.
