Firefighters with Clallam County Fire District 3 responded to a vehicle fire early Sunday morning off Lost Mountain Road.
Battalion Chief Chris Turner reports that at 5:26 a.m. Aug. 10, Carlsborg Station firefighters responded to a vehicle fire on Horizon Hills Road just off Lost Mountain Road and more than five miles off U.S. Highway 101.
Pencom 911 dispatchers advised firefighters that the fire spread from the vehicle to another vehicle and RV camper, he said.
There were no injuries related to the incident, Turner said, as the owners sought safety away from the fire.
The first vehicle that caught fire contained a combustible metal that made it challenging for responders to extinguish the fires, Turner said.
Firefighters used about 1,500 gallons of water on the fires.
Traffic was blocked on Lost Mountain Road as firefighters extinguished the vehicle fires.
In 2024, Clallam County Fire District 3 responded to 16 vehicle fires, accounting for 16% of total fire calls, Turner said.
Fire officials advise not to open a hood or trunk if you suspect a fire inside as it could cause the fire to grow.
Turner said the fire district encourages drivers to have vehicles serviced regularly by a trained mechanic and to keep an ABC fire extinguisher available.
