Clallam County Fire District 3 recently unveiled a new logo designed and approved by firefighters.
The logo has begun showing up in recent weeks on the district’s online presence, press releases and district documents.
“It’s a beautiful thing that was born out of the (fire stations),” said fire chief Justin Grider.
“We’re embracing and celebrating what they want to see.”
Firefighters Beau Sylte and Bryce McGinley worked together to design the logo following a request from then-interim fire chief Dan Orr for new logos as part of a re-branding effort sometime last year.
Grider, who started in March, said he was all for a new logo but wanted to ensure the department was in favor of it.
In the spring, Sylte sent out a survey, and he said “there was a resounding yes for using the new logo” at around 78% in favor.
From there, a small team of chiefs, administrators and firefighters refined the logo, Sylte said, and determined where it would be initially used.
The logo splices “F” “D” and “3” and says “Clallam County Fire District 3 Fire Rescue.”
Grider said it’ll be a “soft transition” and as new equipment comes in, they’ll put the logo on it, such as on an incoming refurbished ambulance in the next 60 days. Other newer equipment will include pickup trucks and a brush rig.
Over the next six to 12 months, the department will add t-shirts and hats for uniforms and on other internal uses such as on letterheads. Grider said there will be a time where they’ll have both logos in use.
“With the fresh look, we want to make sure people know this is who serves you,” he said. “We want it to look different from the rest of the peninsula.”
Fire commissioner Mike Mingee said at the Aug. 20 fire commissioners’ meeting that he likes the logo and re-branding effort as many people don’t know the differences between the fire departments on the Olympic Peninsula and that Fire District 3 is often called “the Sequim Fire Department.”
“I think (branding is) important,” he said.
Per its Facebook page, “Clallam County Fire District 3 provides emergency medical services, fire suppression and all hazard mitigation from three fire stations staffed 24/7/365 with firefighters, EMT’s, and paramedics and three fire stations that are served by our volunteer members year-round to the communities of Gardiner, Diamond Point, Blyn, Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe, Lost Mountain, Happy Valley, Sequim, Dungeness, Carlsborg, Agnew, O’Brien, R Corner and all points in between, north and south.”
The district employs 50 firefighters.
