Fire engulfs structure at the old Clallam Timber log yard

An apparently abandoned mobile home in the old Clallam Timber log yard burned to the ground on Wednesday, Dec. 21, in what fire officials are suspecting is a case of arson.

Clallam County Fire District 2 (Port Angeles) firefighters responded to the structure fire at about 4:20 p.m. Wednesday in the 237000 block of US Highway 101; the 911 call came in from a driver who was passing by and saw smoke and large flames coming from a structure at the location.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they had to cut the lock on the gate to gain access to a fully involved structure. The mobile home, a 10-by-45-foot building, appeared to be abandoned and had no power going to the unit, fire officials said.

The home was completely destroyed.

Firefighters extinguished the fire while the Clallam County Sheriffs Office also responding to the scene for investigation.

Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue responded with three engines, two tenders, two command vehicles and 11 firefighters.
