Food bank sees big numbers for Thanksgiving

As anticipated, staff and volunteers at the Sequim Food Bank saw a big crowd over the weekend.

Stephen Rosales, board president of the food bank, said they gave out all 900 turkeys they purchased along with meal items such as potatoes and cranberry sauce on Friday, Saturday and Monday at the facility, 144 W. Alder St.

This week, the food bank provides multiple meals to facilities such as the Sequim VFW and Trinity United Methodist Church and organizers partner with the Olympic Peninsula Healthy Community Coalition to offer the first Sequim Community Thanksgiving Dinner from 1-4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 24, in the Sequim Boys &Girls Club, 400 W. Fir St.

RSVP to 461-6038. Free rides also are available.

If you or someone you know within the Sequim School District boundaries still needs a meal, contact the Sequim Food Bank, 144 W. Alder St., at 683-1205 or 461-6038.

Rosales said the food bank provides similar offerings as Thanksgiving for Christmas from 9 a.m.-noon Dec. 16-17 and Dec. 19.
