Fourth of July festivities planned for Carrie Blake Community Park

City-sponsored event boasts food, games, entertainment and fireworks

Summer has truly arrived, and nothing says summer quite like the City of Sequim’s annual Independence Day celebration.

Held at Carrie Blake Community Park, 500 N. Blake Ave., Fourth of July festivities include live entertainment, food and games, followed by a colorful fireworks display after dark. Most of the entertainment will be on stage at the James Center for the Performing Arts band shell.

On Friday, July 4, the entertainment schedule will be:

3 p.m. — Sequim City Band: The community symphonic wind ensemble presents “A Patriotic Fourth”

4 p.m. — 133d Pop/Rock Army Band (at the park’s Sequim Botanical Terrace Garden): Family-friendly pop and rock music

5:30 p.m. — Casey Freedom: Americana and country music ranging from 1960-70’s folk rock to ‘90’s alternative

8 p.m. — Great American Trainwreck: Americana and northwestern; original and upbeat, blending bluegrass, southern rock and classic country

10 p.m.- fireworks show

This year, the fireworks show will move farther south — to the road extension behind the ball fields on the south side of the park — to protect a family of eagles and nearby Garry oak trees, a recent decision made by the Sequim City Council at the recommendation of city staff.

The discharge of consumer fireworks were banned in Sequim city limits in 2018. This will be the final year stands will be allowed to sell consumer fireworks in city limits, following a council decision.

The city-sponsored Independence Day event is intended to be a community celebration and an alternative to the unlawful use of fireworks.

Legal, consumer fireworks are allowed to be discharged from 9 a.m.-midnight on July 4 in unincorporated Clallam County east of the Elwha River unless there is a period of fire danger, according to the county’s code.
