Free clinic’s walk raises nearly $30K for operations

Rain didn’t deter supporters of the Dungeness Valley Health and Wellness Clinic last Saturday.

Organizers of the 13th annual Fun Walk and Health Fair at Trinity United Methodist Church on Sept. 9, said supporters raised nearly $30,000 by bringing in $29,287 to support the free clinic.

Executive Director Sara Nicholls said 104 walkers turned out for the 5 kilometer/ 3.1 mile Fun Walk or 1-mile course around Carrie Blake Park and 60 volunteers helped run the event, which also featured a Health Fair with medical screenings, live music, and healthy snacks.

Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church’s Team Akaloo once again raised the most for the clinic with $3,610 in pledges while bringing the most walkers (38).

As tradition, all proceeds support the free clinic, 777 N. Fifth Ave., suite 109, supply urgent and chronic medical care for the uninsured and underinsured.

It opens at 5 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays on a first-come, first-served basis. Chronic Healthcare Clinic is open 1-6 p.m. Tuesdays and the first and third Thursdays all by appointment.
