Free fishing day to reel in young anglers

The North Olympic Peninsula Chapter of Puget Sound Anglers sponsors its 10th annual free Kids Fishing Day, for children 14 and younger, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at the Sequim Water Re-use Demonstration Park on Blake Avenue north of Carrie Blake Park.

No fee or license is required for children 14 and under to fish in the pond, which will be stocked with 1,500 trout, some up to 10 pounds. There is a special separate trout pond for toddlers.

Children may bring their own poles or borrow a rod from the club stock. Bait is supplied by the club.

Young anglers can learn how to clean fish by watching club members clean and ice their catches.

The pond will be stocked with another 1,000 fish in the following weeks so children may continue to fish through the summer.
