Fugitive Mario Wayne Hackney captured

Convicted felon and fugitive Mario Wayne Hackney, 45, of Port Angeles, was arrested by a multi-agency team of local and federal law enforcement personnel on Wednesday, Oct. 17, following a 10-hour operation.

The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office received information that that Hackney, wanted in connection with a Sept. 20 attempted murder, might be at the same residence where he had been earlier, at 206 Cameron Road just west of Port Angeles.

A search warrant for his arrest was obtained for the residence on Wednesday morning.

Law enforcement personnel from the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office, Port Angeles  Police Department, the Olympic Peninsula Narcotics Enforcement Team and the U.S. Border Patrol surrounded the residence and secured the scene. For about 90 minutes, officials attempted to contact Hackney using a bullhorn. During that time they deployed a "throw phone" through a window in the house in order to establish a line of communication with those inside.

At about noon Heidi Irwin-Loran, 40, who was living at the house, exited the structure. She surrendered to officials and was detained for rendering criminal assistance in the first degree, a class C felony.
